    The heart of Dijon
This is the heart of Dijon and there's a lot going on here. The Palais des Ducs et des États de Bourgogne of course is the main attraction here. A really impressive palace and obviously made by the motto: bigger is better. Which in this case it is. There are loads of restaurants on site as well, most of them facing the impressive palace. We had lunch at "Le Pré aux Clercs", which had great Steak Tartare. The Musée des Beaux-Arts and the Grand Théâtre de l'Opéra de Dijon are other main attractions here. And from here it's just a short walk to many other major sights like the Rue Des Forges, Place Francois Rude or the Église Saint-Michel. There are some chain stores and souvenir shops as well. Out of these, the Au Duché de Bourgogne is worth a look. Good wine and other deli products. The Square is just a nice place to be and to see. And definitely a must-do when in Dijon.

Enjoy on a Sunday as do the locals
This is a beautifully destined semi-circular square with plenty of history (e.g. its name has undergone many changes throughout history.) If you can manage it visit on a Sunday afternoon/evening as the locals come out to fill the seats in the restaurants and bars which are located on its periphery.

    Impressive
This square is according to me the most beautiful and the most magnificent place in Dijon. I kept coming back again and again during my day trip to the city and enjoyed very much the beauty of the surrounding buildings, the specious open area, fountains with playing kids, people relaxing in the cafes. It is just very impressive and it comes first to my mind when thinking about this trip.

Pint and coke enjoying the facade of the building.
1664 and a Coke Zero on the plaza very enjoyable.
Not really interested in looking at at and art-te-farts inside, but sure will interest others.
Note: the bar opposite serves mustard in sachets….

I was shocked when I saw this city. Every building is well preserved at The Middle Ages style. You will enjoy the walk in its downtown and seat at plaza with a glass of Burgundy wine. Anyway, it's a city you never miss during the trip in France.

Big town square with lot of restaurants. You will walk though here numerous times in Dijon. Also there is a post office here as I have a friend who still likes to get postcards. it is very pretty at night when lit up.

Like many squares of the main cities of France, this square was called the Royal Square. The equestrian Statue of Louis XIV symbolically recalled that
Place Royale was built between 1681 and 1686, during the reign of the Sun King, as he was flatteringly called. The architect was Jules Ardouin-Mansard, who made a name for himself in construction in Paris (Place Vendome), Chambord and most importantly in Versailles. The origin of the name of the square is so named in connection with the liberation of Dijon in 1944. Anecdotal situation occurred with the monument. The 26-ton Louis XIV is stuck in Auxerre. The bridges along the way would not have been able to withstand such a heavy king. The Sun King reigned so long that he outlived his son, but did not wait for his statue in Dijon. The statue has lain in Auxerre for exactly as many years as it weighed, to reign over the square in 1725. However, the clock of History was already ticking for the Bourbons and the statue was sent to be melted down for cannons at the Le Creusot factory in 1792. The same year that the great-grandson of the Sun King was beheaded in another Royal Square only in Paris. Probably, as cannons, Louis XIV was more useful. Then begins the epidemic of renaming, which can be traced to the main events of French history. The square became Place d'Armes-the Place de la armee in 1792. The Napoleonic administration renamed it Place Impériale in 1804. It became the Place Royale again during the Bourbon Restoration in 1814. However, the revolutions in France did not end and it again took Place d'Armes after the July Revolution. For a century, the square was not renamed, but after the occupation of 1940, the square was renamed in honor of the hero of World War I and concurrently the main traitor at the end of the Second war, Marshal Petain. The main collaborator even managed to perform on the square in May 1944 The Place du Maréchal Pétain ended a few months later along with the fall of the Petain regime and the square becomes the Place de la Liberation at the insistence of the communists. By the way, it was here that the police chief of the collaborators was lynched without trial in 1945. And we think this only in the Middle Ages or in Afghanistan... Despite the constant renaming, the square remained the same. Semi-circular shape, Ducal Palace. Large-scale changes took place only in 2005-2006 under the direction of architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte. The square was closed to traffic, 3 fountains were installed (now they are still illuminated) and a new stone was laid. It turned out very stylish. Both in the evening and in the afternoon.

Placed in the heart of the city, it is full of impressive buildings and a great place to grab a drink and people watch. The main building houses the Museum of Beaux Arts, which is free to enter and definitely worth a visit.

What a wonderful way to spend an evening. Sipping a glass of wine in one of the many outdoor cafes, watching the children enjoy the fountains. Delightful.
