This massive church is worth the one hour side drive from Beaune. You have to park on the outskirts of the main town and it's about a 10 minute walk up the hill to see the basilica. The interior is very impressive with the beautiful...More

It is a long walk up a steep hill, but it is worth it. Plus you get to see all of the little shops along the way which are great as well.

I've seen many impressive ones but this one is top ranking. As far as architecture, the place where it has been built and the special vibrations we can feel. It starts when you are climbing the street to get there, the amazing view from the...More

Stunning basilique Sainte Marie-Madeleine is the real centre-piece of Vézelay. A glorious peaceful place where you can wander by yourself or take a group tour. Spectacular

Try for an evening Mass (whatever your religion or not)—go with an open mind, you will be warmly welcomed by the nuns. The singing of the nuns and monks will make the experience “transcendental” if not more for you. It brings the spaces alive. Also...More

Unlike the basilicas you see in Italy and Spain, there is very little paint or frescos in this place, rather, they let the natural materials and the shapes speak for themselves. It's spectacular in a quiet and peaceful way. I think it might be prettier...More

The basilica is amazing. It is even better because it is still actively used. When we visited, they were having a music festival. In the crypt is a relic of Mary Magdalene. The cloister is not very impressive but the nave of the basilica certainly...More

Stunning abbey atop a hill with far ranging views and beautiful medieval village surrounds. The vast nave is impressive and the crypt is beautiful. Not too touristy, the area offers lovely places to eat and good shops.

Vezelay is one of the more attractive hilltop villages I've been to in France and the church is a fine adornment at the top end of the street. It has a lovely set of carvings at the front of medieval parishioners in an elongated style...More

Hi, I think you would need to get a taxi as Vezelay is about 10 min or so by car along country lanes. No idea of the price, but vezelay is worth almost any price. Once there it is a steep walk up the hill but the taxi... More

There’s also parking up the hill behind the Basilica if you’d rather not walk as far. Not expensive either.
