After a stiffish climb up the hill on a hot summer's day the building is a joy to behold. Upon entering the building the ambience is immediately apparent and the history is more than evident through the carvings and architecture. Whilst there are major building/renovation...More

Beautiful structure. A lot of history as three crusades started from this location It is not overdone on the inside. Just nice. Go to a Mass if possible or to the evening prayers.

It is quite a walk up the hill but you are then rewarded with a beautiful basilica and amazing views. The walk up the hill is equally interesting with stunning architecture and beautiful old houses. Would love to spend more time here.

We visited La Basilique previously but were drawn back once more. And how well we were rewarded. We attended the 11 oclock mass on a Sunday and returned that evening for Vespers. The music was amazing and inspiring. Regardless of your religion this magnificent Basilique...More

What a treasure! I visited the Basilica several times during our two-day stay in Vézelay and found something different every time. The original design has been mucked about with as you would expect for a building this age, but the overwhelming simplicity shines through, making...More

Unfortunately it's at least a 7 hour drive from Cannes to Vezelay. Even going by train to Dijon and then hiring a car, it's just not possible in a day, let alone within the time you have available. If you're interested in... More
