About
Chambord is the emblem of the French Renaissance through Europe and the world. The Domain of Chambord is made up of the château, a village, farms and a wooded area. The domain of Chambord is completely enclosed within a wall, all 5,440 hectares of it. That’s the equivalent of the city of Paris! It is the largest enclosed forest in Europe. The entire site has been the property of the state since 1930; when the public estate was created, article 230 of the law dated 23 February 2005 stated that the possessions making up the domain were given over to it without restriction or exceptions.

Slightly disappointing
Jul. 2021 • Couples
If you like taking your time to visit both the Chateau and the gardens, plan to spend the majority of the day. A couple of hours isn't long enough for both. The building and gardens are incredibly beautiful, but I found the inside bare and less interesting.
The entry cost with the tablet was relatively high (14€ plus 6.50€ for the tablet)

Gorgeous chateau, not super crowded in June
Jun. 2021
We visited this chateau last weekend and it was awesome! While the major tourist crowd isn't back yet, it was actually pretty comfortable to walk around and enjoy it. The gardens are lovely and the flower field around the chateau is perfect photo op... We were definitely glad to go there earlier in the morning to be able to get a good parking spot; by the time we were leaving around 2:30 pm, there were no spot available and people were still coming in...

you can enjoy exterior without ticket
Jun. 2021
First thing to know is you will have to pay for parking, but you don’t need a ticket to walk around the outside of the chateau. I enjoy the French chateau gardens more than the interiors, but if you are going to go inside a chateau this is the right one. Very beautiful interior and impressive double helix staircase. It’s a massive building and property with crowds to match. Can’t imagine how many people come here in normal times. Seemed to be a great family activity. Honestly felt like going to an amusement park as much as a historical chateau.

A special place
May 2021 • Couples
Spent the day here easily.
The drive up gives you the first chateau view in the distance and is impressive.
It’s not just about this enormous building but the grounds cover the formal gardens and a food market for lunch etc.

Additional was the Bird and Horse Show which told the story of France from Medieval times. This was very well done with actors, thoroughbred horses and an array of Birds of Prey.

One hour of fun and showmanship.
Some highlights were Jousting, Vultures and a very large Eagle. Also what I could only a pantomime sketch which was funny even though I don’t speak French.

A very entertaining day out.

Massive hunting castle with stunning revolving staircases
May 2021 • Family
Massive castle designed for hunting and rarely inhabited. Its masterpiece is the dual revolving staircase thought to be designed by Leonardo Da Vinci. What is striking is the symmetry at all levels in the construction. Another noticeable element is the mostly empty rooms as it seems furniture was brought by king only for the duration of the short hunting stays. Another masterpiece is the roof where you feel you are circulating in another mini castle or a mini village. The highlight is here again the cupola overhanging the revolving staircases. The view from the roof on the gardens and the huge domain is a must see.

Castle Chambord: Turn back in XVIth century
Jun. 2020
Chambord castle was really interesting and impressive. It was the first castle I saw. I keep a beautifull memory. I learned lots of things about the castle and the king François 1er because the rooms have been reconstructed. Each piece were like an exposition spent we in a XVIth century. We could grump the mytique double-revolution stairs. We saw, the sculptur of the symbolic salamander of François 1er which covered all the ceiling. But I think the most incredible was the garden which were really nice cut. The view from the top of the castle were amazing and dominated the horizon.

Culture shock
Aug. 2020
Aftre weeks, months even of confinemant I had a bit of a culture shock arriving in this castle. All of a sudden we were confronted with large crowds, admittedey everyone wears a mask on the premises but in the narrow cooridors it's impossible to keep your social distance form the other visitors. The castke itself is magnificent though and well worth the visit especially the intricate double staircase after an idea of Leonardo da Vinci

Glad you enjoyed your visit to the castle. Thank you for your opinion. Due to the unusual size of the castle, the high number of visitors is rarely felt. However, traffic in certain areas, especially the parade apartments in a row, can sometimes be less fluid during the busiest months. The opening of the formal gardens in 2017, in addition to its great historical and aesthetic interest, has made it possible to offer new circulation spaces and thus distribute the flow. See you soon.

Beautiful castle but overcrowded during the Covid-19 period
Aug. 2020
Nice castle to visit. However, during the Covid-19 period, the castle is sometimes a bit small (corridors and rooms) to allow the visit to run in one walking direction. You pass a lot very close to someone else. Mouth masks are mandatory but not everyone wears them correctly and the French are not so careful with keeping their distance. There is only surveillance at the entrance and the doors and windows are open for ventilation, but the staff does not address anyone about it if they are not wearing their masks or are not wearing them correctly. Tickets cannot be reserved for one specific day or hour, which means that many people are present at the same time. We did not feel comfortable on this visit. The waiting lines to rent a golf cart were way too long.

AMAZING!!
Aug. 2020 • Friends
We were there outside of main season on a Wednesday morning.
We went there twice, once at 6.30 for watching the sunrise over the castle, andat 10 a.m. to go inside. There were quite some crowds but still it was fine. No long waiting lines, friendly, very helpful staff, all following the mask rules.
Also if you have questions, do not hesitate to send an email to them. We receveid an answer to our emails within 3 minutes. They're unbelievably fast :-)
The park is huge and just wonderful.
All was very neat and just amazing! The most wonderful castle we've seen on our castle tour in the Loire Valley! Totally recommendable!
