This is an interesting place to visit if you have an interest in stained glass. The museum is located in a very old but restored building. It mainly consists of a lot of modern stained glass exhibits, some of which are quite impressive, and diagrams with explanations of most if not all the stained glass in the cathedral. You could... A shop with old and new stained glass in all sizes. Craft making materials available. Some very traditional work but others with much whimsy.

Located in a beautifully restored huge grain store this centre for stained glass was really intestering to visit. The building itself is amazing, the interpretation and display of religious stained glass very informative but the best part was the basement displays of contemporary stained glass in a wonderful space plus going into the workshops to see craftsmen and women at... I love stained glass and work with it. The explanations were in both English and French. However, I dislike seeing printouts of glass windows, and the reflections on the info pages made them unreadable at times.. It was a way to pass an hour on a Sunday afternoon, but expensive.

They are closed during the lunchtime period. Older periods of glass contrast with the fascinating contemporary exhibit in the basement. The building is wonderful.

How stained glass windows are made and repaired, plus some amazing old examples are on the first floor. The basement holds the surprise! Modern windows designed by young artists for churches all over france and Belgium-fabulous!

Only the main level was accessible. This was the only museum that charged full price in a wheelchair (others were free admission). Only half the museum was accessible. The exhibit in the main floor included a room with every window at Chartres Cathedral with an explanation of each. Also close-up detail from sketch to finished product. Very interesting and informative... More

Having seen more than our fair share of stained glass, and there is certainly a lot in Chartres, is it was very interesting to learn about the history of stained glass and how it has been made through the ages.

Either before or after or preferably both this is a MUST DO while visiting the Chartres cathedral. I came after taking Malcolm Miller's excellent mid-day tour inside the cathedral and it all at last made sense - to be able to get up close and personal with the stained glass images he was describing to the tour group. It's impossible... More

This centre is definitely worth a visit. Here many exact copies of the stained glass columns in the Chartres Cathedral can readily be examined and analysed. They are brought down to a height where they can be appreciated. For instance I took the life of Joseph, then found the original in Chartres Cathedral. Depending on time available, this can be...
