The square was designed in the beginning of the 19th century as a connecting point of the old town and its suburb. The huge statue of Napoleon Bonaparte, dressed as a Roman consul and made from a white marble, dominates the square together wit the fountain of the four lions, designed by Jerome Maglioli.

Nice statue of Napoleon, farmers type market (cheese, meats, olives, honey etc) plus some cafes. The Petit Train tour starts from here – wouldn’t recommend unless you want to do the longer tour to see something outside of central Ajaccio or unless you have major walking problems.

Was in town for the day as part of a cruise. Stumbled upon this busy square and had a blast. Cheese, meats (sausages), produce, crafts, baked goods, preserves, it was all there. My daughter is an olive freak and every variety was available and I think she tried most of them! Sausage samples were my favourite. Plenty of local crafts... More

Only in Ajaccio for a day on a cruise stop but felt it was geared to rich yacht crowd. Very expensive everywhere and didnt think this square particularly attractive. Very touristy place

Pleasant little square but we found prices very high for an alcoholic drink as we did everywhere in Ajaccio. The train does leave from here but, to be honest, there is so little in Ajaccio the train is a waste of time unless you have major walking problems

Nice little square acknowledging Marechal Foch. The Petit Train tour goes from here and it is close to all the town restaurants and bars plus some gift shopping. There are plenty makets and evening life entertainment

When getting off the cruise ships turn left and walk along the harbor until one sees open air square on right side. Cross the two way street with caution. Cars do not slow down for pedestrians. Napoleon's statue overlooks Place Foch's activities.

Place Foch is a large paved area adjacent the cruise terminal. On our visit, there was a delightful street market occupying the entire area, selling all manner of French produce. Wines, cheeses, meats and fruit and vegetables all made for a colourful and aroma filled spectacle. At the head of the Place Foch is a statue of Ajaccio's most famous... More

When we visited the whole square was full of fantastic food stalls. Every type of local produce available and the cheese was my own particular favourite . The stall owners were very nice and helpful

Stop on Royal Caribbean cruise. Docked close to old town and THE place to see is the local market here. Absolutely great cheese and sausage. You are a fool if you do not buy some to take back. Next to Napoleon museum so you get 2 sights next to each other. Also the location for hop on/hop off bus which... More
