We were attracted to this huge square from afar by a 44 meter green colored bronze column decorated with carvings depicting Napoleon Bonaparte’s victorious campaigns. During the French revolution the original column was torn down and destroyed, however by 1874 the column was rebuilt in the centre of the Place Vendome with a copy of the original statue of Napoleon Bonaparte I positioned on the top. An inner staircase leading to the top is no longer open to the public.
The Place VendĂ´me has been renowned for its designer stores, unfortunately closed the morning we visited, and deluxe hotels. HĂ´tel de Bourvallais houses the Ministry of Justice.

When you first approach this public square, you will be awe-struck by the splendor of this place. Napoleon must have cringed in his grave as he would never have imagined that his monument at the centre of this square would one day be out-staged by the surrounding posh and glitzy shops and hotels. There is an air that this place is for the well-heeled, so the average traveller may feel out of place. Good for window shopping and observing the lifestyle of the rich and famous.

Place Vendome is another public square and only a five-minute walk from the largest and most famous square - the Place de la Concorde.
The enormous Vendome column stands proudly at the centre of the square.
Surrounding the square are high-end and exclusive jewellery shops and also some top hotels like the Ritz and Vendome.

Currently the realm of high-end jewelry stores where I come to gaze in the windows at the artistry. Fancy hotel here that won't let you in the door. It's better than it used to be when it was a car park, but it is a cold sterile stone space, and a place of luxury.

Bad care of the hotel lobby, actually, horrible, looks like abandones. COVID killed it…
We went into our “suite”. Filthy, hairballs all over the sofa; dust, breadcrumbs.
Extra bad taken care of. The bed linens torn, the sofa broken; the lamp shields broken.
A trully “chambre des bonnes “.
Embarassing for Westin Place VĂŞndome.
Not enough staff at the horrible front desk.
If you keep like this, you will be another victim of COVID.
So sorry for you and not delivering to your customers.

Rub shoulders with definitely the rich and sometimes famous. Wonderful central monument commemorating the Battle of Austerlitz. The Ritz Hotel, Cartier, and designer names that exclusive I've never heard of them. Great to see how the other half live!

We came for a brief stop to this nice place in the heart of Paris.

One of the five royal squares in Paris, the Place Vendome today is associated with high end jewelry, watches and clothes. The Ritz Hotel is here as is the Ministry of Justice. One road runs north/south through it, intersected by the Vendome Column, Napoleon atop same, celebrating the 1805 victory at Austerlitz. It is hard to feel neutral about the place. You will love the opulence or be more than a little contemptuous of it. The design is nevertheless striking.

Beautifully decorated square and a must see during the holiday season. Short walk from the Tuileries Garden Christmas market. Huge Louis Vuitton store there as well as a very fancy Ritz hotel.

Place Vendome is a rather nice public square with many shops in the general area. We wandered around for a while enjoying the views. In the centre of the square there is a tall column which was erected by Napoleon to commemorate the battle of Austerlitz. It seems to dominate the square but it is quite an interesting column.

I would like to know about the metal on the tower which Napoleon stands. Metal from which war??
