I am a chocolate lover, I adore chocolate. I wanted to visit this shop because it is the oldest chocolate shop in Paris and, of course, to buy chocolates. I chose the chocolates myself rather than buying a ready-filled box. The shop is a lovely old place which throws you back into the past immediately. It is attractively laid out... More

One of the very best chocolatier in Paris. Debauve & Gallais has a classic (and classy) style. No fancy mixtures, and yes less creative than Patrick Roger or Hermé, but chocolate is of true highest quality. Excellent pralinés too, usually not too sweet. A must.

We visited this chocolate shop while on a chocolate tour. We tried four different chocolates, the 99%, which was obviously incredibly bitter, the 85%- my personal favorite which tasted like a good quality dark chocolate, 75%- a bit sweeter, but would also be good for a dark chocolate lover, and the 65%- fairly sweet. I should mention that all chocolates... More

Debauve & Gallais chocolates do not contain any preservatives or industrial ingredients such as soy lecithin and other abominations. Some people have left comments saying their chocolates have no taste or the texture isn't right. I say that the texture is perfect for a product that doesn't use ingredients that help them cheat. Have a look at the ingredients of... More

Omg. This is the best chocolate my family has ever had. Every time I am in Paris I come here and stock up on their chocolate covered orange peels and caramel nougat mushroom shaped candies. It is very old school but they are usually nice and one of the employees generally speaks English. Not fancy. A little pricey but the... More

I like to buy dark chocolate in the most reknown chocolatiers. I was in the neibohood and decided to give it a go. first the advice on the different type of dark chocolate was quite poor. sounded like the person who served me did not know what he was selling. finally got something which was ok to my taste after... The ambiance and service equate to elegance, not snobbery. The delay in my writing this review is due to the fact that I did not taste any of my chocolates until returning to America. As one reviewer wrote I just happen to be strolling along in Saint Germaine Des Pres and walked in front of the store. The window dressings... More

Admittedly, I may be biased. About a decade ago I did extensive web research to find out what the finest truffles on earth were. I wanted to do a spectacular gift for my wife and I consulted numerous sites and blogs (I think there were blogs back then, maybe forums) to see what the general consensus was about the finest... A man in a random vintage shop told me Debauve et Gallais was "ze best in ze world"!! He had such enthusiasm I decided to go back across the river to where I had just been and get some truffles. The shop was very elegant, and the clerk was very friendly and helpful. I bought about 6 truffles and a... More

Was walking up Rue des Saints-Peres on my way to Rue Rennes and spotted this place. It is small and expensive, but the types of chocolate I have never seen. The clerk was very friendly and spoke good English to compensate for my very poor French. 24 Euro got three pieces and two bars. They now have a web site... More
