One of my favorite buildings in Paris, Hotel de Ville is absolutely gorgeous. Another example of incredible Parisian architecture. Stop into the BHV Marais and L'as du Fallafel while you're in the neighborhood!

Walked by one sunny afternoon in September 2013. The fountains are beautiful and really complement the architecture of the building.

For those coming to Paris, this historic building is a must see because it is absolutely beautiful. It houses the Mayors office who presides over all of Paris. Each town will have a building named the same. It is not a hotel hahahaha. "The Mairie" is the term used for all the mayors offices of all the districts or the... More

Had never been inside on any of our prior trips. Saw a special exhibit about Coluche, a French comedian and actor who died young, but apparently was very popular and beloved in France. I enjoyed the well curated show even though it was only in France. Through the photographs, videos, and memorabilia, I got a sense of who he was... More

A big building with intricate details on its facade and with a big square on its front. It's near to Notre Dame and Sainte Chapelle. It's worth visiting to admire its beauty.

I have seen some city halls across Europe but really this one has art in its lifeblood. And they want the place to keep its museum appeal. Great place to visit.

Worth stopping by. Not as crowded as most sights. Not a must see but if you're in the area, why not stop?

A beautiful building in an interesting area, The Hotel de Ville is the mayor's office. In Winter, there is an ice skating rink that is set up in the square. Other times of the year, there are interesting exhibitions and installations. It's a quick visit and you'll be lucky if you get a tour of the inside.

Paris' Hotel de Ville sponsors excellent temporary exhibits on local art, culture and history. All are free. Come and learn something about Paris. But note that some are hugely popular and attract long lines.

The western facade of the Paris Hotel de Ville City Hall is a goldmine of small details and photo ops. There is ornate grilled fence-work, metal statuary and sculpted stone. Some is painted gold and the golden hour produces interesting shadow effects. Tip: go to the SW corner by the Seine river and you will discover the little-known jardin called... More

Staying in Le Marais

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Marais
The Marais is a winding maze of multi-faceted streets that beg to be explored. It bursts with small boutiques, historic buildings, cozy traditional restaurants, and hidden parks. Around each corner, you'll come across little gems of architecture spanning the centuries, from understated medieval towers to classical libraries and 17th century splendour. This neighbourhood unites a rich mix of people of all ages, but it's best known for the gay scene mostly in the south and the Jewish community around Rue des Rosiers.
