This square and the surrounding area are the heart of the Montmartre village and could not be more charming. Lots and lots of cafes. Street markets. Ethnic restaurants. I love to spend time here.

This is such a charming neighborhood. My favorite part is Chinemachine thrift store. What a gem of a store! Located close to Abssesses metro stop, about 4 minute walk partly uphill. Not very large but well organized. Getting downstairs is through a very tight small spiral staircase. Downstairs is certainly not for the claustrophobic. More woman's clothing & very limited... We had the pleasure at staying an apartment through air b nb. Best decision we have ever made over staying in hotel. Montmatre is an upscale, quiet yet convenient hub near the Sacre Couer. There is too many wonderful places to visit via the metro and RER.

If you're in Montmartre for any length of time at all then you'll eventually pass this little square. When you do, just stop and look at the only Metro station with a completely surviving art nouveau canopy, lights and signs. Then think what it must have been like to live at a time when public art was still respected and... More

Located in the Centre of Montmartre , this square around metro station offers some nice options for a little relax, just sit down and look at pretty surroundings, enjoy some street art while having ice cream or anything else.

This station at the base of Montmartre has one of the original covered Art Deco Metro entrances. The square is charming, containing a water fountain, and abuts the love wall park and a church, with many restaurants and shops being close. The station itself has a ton of steps, do yourself a favor and take the elevator. Great stop to... More

If you've got even the slightest knee or leg pain, or even a junior blister with ambitions to become something more, avoid the stairs out of this Metro station and take the elevator. You can thank me later ... Never in my life have I seen so many stairs, and so steep. Honestly! And the area (once you get above... More

Abbesses metro still has the full canopy, lights and signs of the art nouveau period - great to photograph. Close by is a small park, busy with locals and tourist alike. A place to wander around before the impact of the crowded Sacre Coeur area.

Movie fans will recognize this metro stop with the old art deco entrance, carousel and quaint neighborhood feel. Sorry, couldn't find a photo-booth but a nice little garden with mural right behind stop. Don't just turn left and head for Sacre Coeur. Go right down Abbesses for nice local shops and less touristy shops. Walk all the way down the... More

Staying in Montmartre

Neighbourhood Profile
Montmartre
Montmartre is a bustling mix of cultures, colours, and styles which changes from one street to another. Ride the funicular (or, for a real workout, climb the steps) to the sublime Sacré-Coeur (Basilica of the Sacred Heart) with its inspiring view of the city. The church is surrounded by provincial streets and piano bars where tourists, artists, and street entertainers thrive. At the foot of the hill, Boulevard de Clichy features shops not intended for young audiences, while residences are scattered to the north and east. The diverse population includes a large part from the Arab-speaking world, Africa, and Turkey. It’s a corner of Paris full of life and dynamism with charms that can’t be found anywhere else.
