We stayed in Belleville on the recommendation of a Parisian friend, and we were not disappointed! It's a lively but cool area with lots of bars, restaurants and brunch places. To get a non-tourist perspective of Paris, definitely visit Belleville.

Great place! Nice to roam about ideally and just sit and relax with some food. It is a place where one sees different cultures present in Paris. Do visit!

Being a street art photographer allows me to check out neighborhoods that regular tourists may never visit because there are no monuments, or such neighborhoods are considered 'undesirable'. My sole mission in going to Belleville was to seek out a few very specific works of...More

After you've seen just about everything else in Paris, and if you are interested in digging deeper, do visit Belleville. Historically important residence of Paris' working class, important during the Commune period, now home to many immigrants, on the way to gentrification. Lots of affordable...More

The street-art scene in this neighborhood is a delite! (Galleries, too.). Lace up your best walking shoes and grab your camera(s) .... just never know which corner you'll turn and "Wham-POW" -- fun art on the walls. There are some helpful guidePosts on Google, but...More

Come see working class Paris and enjoy some great parks with beautiful vistas of the city. Now full of immigrants, this is historic.

Belleville can come across a bit rough and ready on arrival, but when you get into it you'll be pleasantly surprised. Lots of great bars full of regulars and stundents. Also very cheap for Paris. Get to aux follies for €4 a pint. Also Le...More

So. Belleville was perfect for my trip. Great food. Authentic experience. English speakers everywhere. Safety? Let me put it like this. I counted more than 30 soldiers with assault rifles between my hotel and the stations on Boulevard De Belleville. That doesn't include the Police....More

I booked an AirBNB studio in Belleville (near Jourdain metro stop) and really enjoyed my time here. There is a bus (26) which brings you directly into the area from the Gare du Nord and it's a half hour walk to busy Republique. The streets...More

We visited here to see a famous graffiti/art alley that was listed in our Frommer's guidebook. What we found was a dirty and slightly seedy neighborhood. We stopped in at a bar and were treated rudely. Not worth our time while in Paris.

Belleville / Pere Lachaise
At the eastern edge of Paris lies Belleville / Père
Lachaise, an understated wonderland of local
treasures. Alongside the world-famous cemetery,
family-owned delicatessens and cafés nestle between
local stores and establishments. The richness of the
population here has created a little Chinatown of
Asian restaurants, and the area comes to life at night
by a funky underground scene. Façades change from one
