Worth the visit

The original seat of the French Kings, packed with history so lots of see. Enjoyed our visit to the Conciergerie.

Notre Dame is the centre-piece of the island, surrounded by the River Seine, at the heart of Paris. There are lots of souvenir shops and restaurants to suit all pockets. Have a stroll along the river or take a Batobus to the Eiffel Tour.

This is one of the most charming places in Paris. To walk in this island is a must. Pity it gets so busy.

I especially like the flower and plant sellers. Warm on a cold winter's day. Lots of interesting buildings as well as Notre Dame

Walked around here and past Notre dame and the many shops in June 2012 after departing our boat tour along the Seine. Also, took an evening bike tour in October 2013. We drove along the wooden top bridge to get ice cream at a corner shop here. Also, drove by Notre dame and heard someone performing Halleleujah on guitar in... More

A msut walk if your in the area, home to notre dame and several other nice buildings, whilst also being home to some great views of the river and also the locks which couples have been putting there through years of journeying.

- Island in the Seine, home to Notre Dame cathedral and close to other nearby attractions (eg the Hotel de Ville). - Easily accessible by train and metro, and can be traversed in a few minutes by foot. - The bridges to/from the island make for great photo spots!

Easily accessible, you have here the Sainte Chapelle, la Conciergerie and Notre Dame. Also on the west side is the Pont Neuf, the oldest bridge in Paris, plus the square of the Vert Gallant, Henri !!, what a rogue!!! ALL has to be seen, so plan it well!

We rented an apartment on the little island due to its central location. Tons of good eateries and shopping without automobile traffic. Fun place to poke your head in the door with a "bonjour!" and see what treasures await.

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighbourhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
