    Old fashioned character
This is the gateway to the South of France. If you come on the RER you will be disappointed as the station seems to be entirely underground with the platforms located in a number of halls. However get outside via the main entrance where there is a busy and unremarkable square. There are a number of restaurants around where you can sit in the morning sun. The most authentic part of the station is in close proximity to the Train Bleu restaurant and nearby is a vintage shopping arcade with a number of eating outlets. If you waiting there it is interesting to observe the vast number of high speed trains coming and going.

Train station is clean and very crowded. Lots of nice shopping. If you get first class ticket you can sit in Quiet clean friendly staff business lounge. Staff at desk is very helpful. When getting on train the scan on phone train bar code ticket didn’t work in the line we were in so nice staff member was standing there to scan ticket. Train on time.

    Big and Busy
Maybe the prettiest train station in town because of the lovely restaurant found here. Underground you will find a big mall with connections among transit options plus some shopping. This place can be very busy as it is the station that travelers use to go to the South.

    Station in Eastern Paris
Large station in Eastern Paris on the right bank across the river from Gare d'Austerlitz and near Gare de Bercy. Getting here can be a pain as few metro lines pass through here. The station itself is usually busy, but not as chaotic as Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est. Not too far to walk to Gare d'Austerlitz over the bridge/river, but don't do it in the rain. Car traffic here can be gridlocked at times, so best to avoid renting a car here or parking here - take the metro or a taxi instead.

    Train Station
One of several train stations in Paris. If you want to go to the South of France, this is the one you’d use. The staff on the platform were very helpful and spoke great English. They have signage all over, to help you find where you need to go. The train itself was decent, but rather cramped in second class. Overall, definitely a nice way to see the French countryside between Paris and Aix-en-provence!

    Great train station
One of the few stations we visited dur8ng our visit to Paris. We reached here from Geneva. The station is great but not busy like montparnasse. The signs are well marked for shopping, food, taxis, and restrooms. The restrooms are maintained well. Short walk from the platform to catch your taxi.

Gare de Lyon was a most enjoyable station from which to depart on the SNCF/RENFE jointly operated TGV high speed train to Girona/Barcelona, Spain.

Unfortunately the two rail operators dislike each other to put it mildly so frequencies on this route are not what they should be.

The station is beautiful architecturally, and there are many delightful shops.

The booking office staff member was most helpful when I arranged onward reservations as part of our Eurailpass extensive travels.

We also visited the famous restaurant Le Train Bleu upstairs that had scaffolding around it due to station works, but that did not detract from the experience.

One needs to locate the 'hall' from which each train departs. Unfortunately SNCF only open the barrier gates for a train about 15 minutes prior to scheduled departure. As our TGV was conveying 500 passengers from Paris, this meant some fairly chaotic scenes as travellers jostled to have their ticket checked. It also meant a quick walk along a long platform if one was in the front TGV, as there were two coupled sets.

The Parisian RER semi-fast suburbans are quite some walk from the long distance trains, so don't plan a two minute connection.

Gare de Lyon is part of 6 big travelling terminal in Paris. Around 83 millions of people use the terminal in a year. It has an amazing French rococo architecture and French restaurants. The visit only worth the trip and it is FREE to go inside.

For info only: Several big and small hospitals surround the train station, including the University hospital.

Also, Paris Zoo is located just across the station/river Seine. Walking distance.

French railway stations are a nightmare. They only announce the platform for the train 15 mins before arrival and keep changing the departure halls(there are 3). Trains always run up to an hour late and that’s the good news. Public transport is very often in strike in France. Even Spain is more pleasant and efficient and way cheaper than France!!

I travelled to Paris from Barcelona and my train arrived in the French capital at Gare De Lyon. After a few hours on a train I was keen to stretch my legs and was overwhelmed at the size of the station.

Firstly there are alot of platforms and many of them were full with the TGV units which are the French high speed sets.

On the concourse there are a number of different places to get drinks and snacks. There is a nice area with some magnificent friezes over the ceiling depicting French life in the past. Possibly used to inspire people to travel back in the past. In this area there are some fancy places to get things like clothes, gifts, etc.

There are two RER lines serving the station and these leave from below ground level. To get to these platforms there are ramps and lifts and there is a lower concourse. There are ticket machines here but they are all popular however they also have members of staff available to sell you a ticket from a card machine. This is a bit quicker than being behind someone who has no clue what ticket they are supposed to be buying.

There are also metro platforms. Tickets for these can be bought from the same machines.

The following day I returned to the station as I was in the area and needed to get to Gare Du Nord. I knew I could use RER Line D to get there so came to this station. When I was there I saw a HUGE queue for taxis. I am not sure if it was just because the weather was bad or alot of trains had arrived at the same time but my suggestion would be to avoid the taxi queue and use the metro or RER instead. Go on, take a ride with the rest of us. We don't bite ;)

An impressive building and especially the adjacent clock tower, which is very beautiful especially in the evening. There are many restaurants and shops in the station itself, and it is full of hotels. Since there is also a major subway stop here, it was always full of people

Last week we arrived at Gare de Lyon on the TGV and had to catch a taxi to our hotel at the CDG airport. We were careful to use the queue for authorized taxis, but because we had three people and three large suitcases, we were directed to a larger car that was parked alongside the taxi stand. We loaded up our bags and got in; then, _after_ we were underway, the driver casually mentioned that his credit card apparatus was broken, and so we would need to pay cash. We told him we didn't have enough cash on hand, and he said "No problem; I'll take you to an ATM." This was clearly a scam, so we demanded that he stop immediately. We got out, sent him on his way, and called for an Uber. Be careful. Taxi scams are apparently a big problem in Paris. Be careful!

We used Gare de Lyon a couple of times. The building is certainly noteworthy architecturally. It is a big station. However, as is the case almost everywhere, people need to be very careful with their luggage and their personal possessions all the time. There are always shady characters around waiting for travellers to drop their guard and they rob them. Be alert!

Be advised that the TGV departs from numbered platforms in Hall 2 that are a good ten minutes walk from the main entrance if you have heavy luggage. On arriving at the station ask immediately for the TGV departures location. A few minutes before departure, the TGV lines close and you can't get on. Make sure you arrive in Hall 2 a good 20 mins before departure so you can beat the random bureaucratic arrangements that can send you downstairs to the underground hell that is Hall 3. If you need the loo make sure you have euro coins as the dragon who guards them will happiy see you soil yourself rather than let you in.

The train station "Lyon ", is located in the 12th arrondissement of Paris. It serves the South East of France and neighbouring countries. The railway station , which is seen today , dates from 1900 , thanks to the Universal Exhibition of the same year . It consists of a large two-storey building , open with large arcades , with a slate roof with inclined sides and equipped with seated dogs . On the west side, the belfry with its 67-metre-high Clock Tower , in the Haussmannian style , stands out from the view. A large canopy protects the original 13 lanes, in the part now called hall A. It is here that is located the gourmet restaurant "Le Train Bleu " upstairs, in a style "Second Empire " affirmed. The double-revolution staircase is a vestige of the period , the whole having been classified as Historic Monuments since 1972 .

Due to the increase in traffic, the original station was extended several times from 1960 onwards. Today, two additional halls number 2 and 3 , under a large glass roof , allow the departures of TGV . We find all the services , in a bright and pleasant setting. Another underground part allows the departures of RER lines A and D .

The visit to this station is for me always an event , for its style , its changing atmosphere and the many services that are there . In the large hall known as the ticket offices , you can see the long fresco , which stretches under the ceiling , which represents the main monuments of the cities served .  It is the Provençal painter Jean Baptiste , Olive who is the author of this masterpiece , made in the form of camouflaged canvas
