In contrast to the sheer scale and formality of the Palace of Versailles and its gardens, the Grand and Petit Trianons and their gardens were much more accessible. The apartments in the Grand Trianon in particular were quite fascinating.

The hamlet is basically a personal theme park that Marie Antoinette had built for she and her friends to play "peasant life". Too bad the buildings aren't open to tour through.

We enjoyed walking round the area but the signs to the different parts of the site were non-existent and the map not that good. The planting of the vegetable beds was interesting.

I can understand why the royal families fled to the Tianons and Hamlet to get away from the hustle of the palace. It felt miles away. The simplicity of the decor, the intimate little gardens, and the charming Hamlet all provided a peaceful get away....More

Relaxing walk around the gardens, paths and enjoy the atmosphere, soak up the history and see how things used to be, but take your own picnic as food and drink is expensive to buy, you can stop for a picnic anywhere, so time is no...More

After visiting the palace we moved onto the Trianon and also the hamlet, both of which are stunning places to visit. We were blessed with good weather, making it an even more enjoyable experience!

We came for the Versailles Palace, but this was a pleasant surprise! We arrived after walking through the Versailles Garden. The “Petit Trianon” is a small but really beautiful palace. It's located Southeast of Versaille Palace and accessible from the Versailles gardens. According to Wikipedia,...More

The chateau is pretty, but the Trianons and Hamlet are exquisite - you really get a feel for what Versailles was all about. Make the extra walk and be sure to see these - you will not regret it.

I don't know exactly because the Trianon is a separate building. But I would say the gardens are open as long the Versailles gardens are open. So all day long till late evening. M.
