The Old City of Carcassonne is well worth a visit for its sweeping views, impressive restored architecture, and well constructed museums. The old city can be divided into the keep-turned-museum, the walls, and the city itself, all of which are worth wandering, even though the...More

Viewing the Cite and approaching, you will be in awe. Inside are wonderful side streets and some good restaurants. Visit the museum and walk the walls. In off season this was wonderful and we had an amazing experience- I hear its not as charming in...More

Just to stroll around the medieval city is a treat, especially after 5pm when most of the coach tours have left!

The visit to the main chateau is very good but tends to be very crowded. We got there when it opened at 10 am and there was a queue to get in (and this is in May). Make sure you do the ramparts walks -...More

Very large old medieval city, we took the audio tour @ 12€ each. Took a while to get the hang of how to use it as the instructions were not very good. You have to be able bodied and reasonably fit to take the tour...More

We stayed just outside the city centre and walked around a mile in everyday. The view into the city is amazing as you just get the massive walls looming over you. At night the views of the city are incredible, especially from the bridge. Lots...More

I loved everything about this walled city. Every part is well maintained, it is easily walkable in a day. I had my best meal on this France trip at Cafe Lucien inside the walled city.

From DC you would need to get a flight connection from Paris to Carcassonne airport. There are buses from the airport to the city for about €5 each way. I wouldn't recommend you to take the train from Paris as the trip... More

Yes! Absolutely a beautiful present day city and of course the old walled Cite'. The train is definitely the way to go as it is a direct trip.
