This is absolutely a must when in the area. The whole arena area is great for walking and people watching. Take the time to do the tour of the arena. However, it does get warm inside the arena so keep this in mind. Take time to sit and take in the arena in its entirety. It is an awesome experience.... More

We visited the arena using the Roman pass which covers the Arena, Tour Magna and Maison Carree, in Nimes, as well as the Roman theatre of Orange (good value if you intend to visit all sites, which we did, and is valid for 1 month.) It was a lovely sunny day in October and we sat in the arena listening... More

Arrived at 1100 on a Sunday. Was very quiet-thought it was closed. Bought a ticket to see all 3 attractions for €13. What a place to visit. Audio guide was very good. Could have done with a few extra signs, but ended up climbing and exploring. Not sure where else you can explore such an antiquity. I doubt it's suitable... More

This splendid Roman amphitheater w/ two levels was built around 70 AD and is situated in the center of Nimes. It's considered the best preserved one in the world and is 133 m long,101 m wide with 34 ringed rows of seats that can accommodate 16.300 spectators. The arena was remodeled in 1863 to serve as the site of two... More

I visited the Arene de Nimes in the summer whilst on holiday. It was absolutely breathtaking, it's size, the detail, the architecture - it really is a master piece. Especially as it's in a small sleepy town, I didn't have expect it to be so impressive. The audio tour is well worth getting because it really paints a picture of... More

Well 2000 years! One of the splendid roman legation in our country. But do you know, that during the middle ages, this was used as a castle. People lived there, protected by the heavy walls. An estimate is about 10000 people living there. On the floor, above!!!! A large city within walls.

Absolute must see! This building shows the power and beauty of Ancient Rome - well preserved (renovated) for its age - at a mere 2000 years old it's doing well. The audio tour really helps with information and easy to follow for whole family. The boys loved the gladiator relics and info. You do need to be reasonably agile -... More

Made a quick stop here on our way to Spain and visited the Arena. It is the best preserved Roman arena in the world. The tour was thorough and there was so much to see once inside. You can explorer the area top to bottom and all around. Having been to the arenas in Rome and Verona, this one is... More

A more conservated version of the Romain Coliseum, a trip through the time. I thought it a bit expensive... 36€ for 2 adults and 3 children.

Simply amazing....The entire family enjoyed it. The views from the top are spectacular and it is well maintained. I have visited the one in Rome as well as the one in Verona. This one ranks right up there with them if not better.
