Don't waste your 36euro on the Place de Duche. The older gentleman who took our money spoke only french to us, although understood our English questions, then very quickly, while continuing to speak in a torrent of french, took us up a flight of stairs and "added us" to a tour with a french speaking guide who completely ignored us.... This fortified chateau with three towers is situated in the heart of Uzes and was built in stages starting with the imposing 40 m tall Bermonde Tower in 1170. The two other corner watch towers were added in 15th C. during a restoration while the Renaissance style façade was built from 1572 on. This summer residence of the 17th Duke... More

Being the summer residence of the Duche, the castle is filled with the family history, and there are many portraits of the family including artefacts, there are interesting tidbits on various family members. The tour lasted about 20 minutes. The tour guide we had made no attempt to speak even some basic English, rather she handed out a booklet that... More

We decided to buy tickets and visit the Le Duche. The tour is pretty straight forward, all in french with a handout english guide. You are taken through some rooms in the chateau, which are furnished with antiques and heirloom pieces. This is not a long guided tour. The most appealing part for us was the self guided tour of... We visited Le Duche and paid to go on a tour of the Castle. Unfortunately the tour was in French and it wasn't until we were half way through that we obtained a booklet provided by the tour guide which was in English. It gave us some insight into what we were looking at! But even though this was a... More

Not sure how to rate this. The Ducal Palace is an amazing historic place, literally central to any visit to lovely Uzès, and the views from the tower alone are amazing --- BUT the tour itself was utterly appalling. It makes France look like a poor underdeveloped country. We entered the gates to find a sign in English advertising a... More

If in town the castle is a must see. The Guide didn't speak English, but provided me will English notes. The history behind the castle was interesting and put things in context. Worth a visit although a bit expensive

At a cost of 18 euro this is not worth it especially if you do not speak French, notes are provided in English but are pretty basic. The views from the top of the tower are brilliant. You only get to see 5 rooms and the cellar.

We came to Uzès too late to visit the ducal castle but it is very impressive from the outside both by its massive dungeon and by the harmonious conjunction of the many styles in which it was built along the centuries: only the castle of Blois in the Loire region can boast such a quality. But "Le Duché", as it... More

This is a beautiful building that is still used as a family home. However, at 18€ per person it is simply not worth the money. You see five rooms in total on a guided tour in French only. If you are English you are given a tatty printout that tells you very little. The French guide did not acknowledge us... More
