On our way from a night in Carcassonne to our stay in the Dordogne we stopped in Cahors to see Pont Valentre. This medieval bridge was well worth the stop. We spent half an hour walking across the bridge and reading up on the history of the bridge. If you are in the area, this is well worth the stop.

This must be one the most beautiful bridges that I have ever seen.
Three beautiful towers, one in the middle, and the other two, one at each end.
When I visited some 40 years ago, single file traffic was able to navigate the bridge, with the use of a traffic light system.
But now it is pedestrianised, which makes it much easier to view.
Well worth a visit!

More than a bridge, a fortress. Spectacular. One of the great monuments of the area for which it is worth a visit to Cahors, and visit nearby towns such as Saint Cirq la Popie, Roque Gageac, and Sarlat.
And, if you have more time, get to Bordeaux.

A few years since my last visit and lots of changes. The surrounding area very much built up. A large new hotel, the old car park vanished under a new office block. In fact nowhere nearby to park. I had to use a Saturday empty office one for an hour or so.
The bridge of course as wonderful as ever. I think the nearby view of it is one of the best in the whole of France. Certainly in my top ten.
Unfortunately, in my opinion, no doubt with the best intentions the authorities have transformed the rather higgledy-piggledy paths etc in clean new ones with a small vineyard for what purpose?

Excellent and spectacular architecture which never fails to amaze me. Shame there is renovation work at present so scaffolding on one of the towers but still an amazing experience. Visited 3 years ago before COVID and again last week and still amazed at this Bri edge. Ran down from town early in the morning to run across to enjoy the experience. Visited again 2 days later.

What a wonderful relic from days of yore ! It’s like a fairytale bridge across a fearsome river & deep valley.. The view from the adjacent Best Western hotel is almost as good as being on the bridge itself. It’s easy to imagine the bridge being used in medieval times (but I’ll bet there was a toll on it, too)

Loved the bridge - it is definitely worth a visit in every sense. However the cruise around the river was a big disappointment despite the lovely scenery. Not enough seats outside on the boat, we were not allowed to sit at the back, and the interior was unbearably hot & airless on a warm day. Above all the commentary was too loud and absolutely relentless ( and only in French). We thought we would have a relaxing peaceful ride down the river but nothing could have been further from this and we were so glad when it ended. Would have been much better to offer headphones ( with a choice of languages) to those who wanted them and allow the cruise to be quiet and relaxing in keeping with the surroundings. We got off the boat hot and frazzled!

...the rest of the mediaeval city is nowhere near as interesting or beautiful as the guide books and online media would lead you to believe.

We parked in the centre of town, and walked down to the bridge, which was beautiful. Gorgeous hot sunny day. We walked along the Lot riverbank to the old city, and had a very pleasant morning

Nice architecture and view over the river. Not so busy. Relaxing path walk by Lot river. Not easy to find a car spot.
