Nice canal

The canal is beatiful but nothing special. There is nice walking and running path. There are few boats. A pleasanr place to get away from the city noise.

We took two cruise in Toulouse - one up the Garonne and one along the Canal de Brienne. Of the two, the one along the canal was much the more interesting, taking us past the old tobacco factories and teaching us a bit of Toulouse history. If you don't want to take to the water, a stroll along the canal... More

The Canal was built in the C18th to by pass the Bazacle weir so barges could continue off the River Garonne to and from the Canal du Midi. It starts near the Place St Pierre square with a couple of brick built locks as at that point it's in a deep cutting below street level. Apparently it's only about a... More

do not miss either a walk on the side of Brienne channel or/and a cruise on a ship (only 8 to 12€, quite worth the price...) the atmosphere is special: green dormant waters, antique bridges, fishermen and couples in love are surrounding you giving your promenade a romantic atmosphere...

There is a boat trip several times a day from Quai de la Daurade, along the river and up this canal. If you understand French, there is a running commentary provided- if not, they can give you a handy printed summary. Not spectacular, but very interesting.

If I lived in Toulouse I'd enjoy running alongside this canal. It has tree coverage, therefore keeps the sun off you and has a cool, laidback feel. However, as a tourist I didn't find this a particularly interesting attraction, particularly as the riverboat tours pass up and down here with their audio-narration. There are much better things to do and... More

Along side the canal you can bike for miles. Espacially when you can get the bikes for cheap everywere in Toulouse. Great exercise.

Se the intereting way the canal was engineered, quite different from others I have seen. There are quite few canal boats moored at various points along the way, each offeriing interesting food and servces,

Walked along the canal and took a boat trip up to the canal basin in Toulouse - interesting to see the symbols of the masons carved into the stones of the canal locks. It's leafy and shady, which is lovely on a hot Sunday afternoon.
