Worth the drive

I have visited several times on my way to Corner Brook from the ferry at Port aux Basques. It is out of the way but an indulgence on my part.

Good way to spend time in a less visited location

If you're a keen walker or a birdwatcher this is an ideal place for you. There is a large colony of Kittiwakes separated over the two main cliffs in the park, but you can also see Gannet, Great Cormorant and Black Guillemot and smaller birds amongst the tuckamore. It's also a good place to whale watch and we saw dolphins. It's on the tip of Cape St George, so prone to sea mists which we also experienced.

There are a couple of walks and the French bread oven (1 of 4 in Newfoundland) can be found in the parking area. This operates during the summer months on a daily basis, making bread for tourists to sample. There's also the French memorial.

Well worth a visit if you're on the peninsula but a long way to drive there and back from the main road if not.
