A lot of walls of the Citadels are not in good shape, gates that were nice in horrible condition and poorly maintained- is one of big impressions. Also you can't see much, but still it is nice place to enjoy as there is a lot of green areas around it.

A short stroll from the zoo is the Citadel, the inside of which is not open to the public (at least not whilst we were there). Whilst impressive, the grounds themselves seemed poorly kept. You are better off sticking to the nearby Zoo/park area.

Although it was very cold with a biting wind, we enjoyed our walk from the centre of Lille to the citadelle. Unfortunately we were too late in the day to gain entrance but we saw enough to make sure we visit it properly when next in Lille and hopefully when it is warmer too.

Nothing "citadel" about this. All you can do is walk along the wall. However even this wasn't pleasurable due to the badly maintained grounds.

I was unsure whether to rate this as terrible or poor but decided on terrible because of the total waste of a beautiful area. It is really run down and overgrown also the water is stagnant and smells. I love walking and we enjoyed walking all around the citadel but know nothing about it as there was no information available.... More

Huge and impressive. One of my favourite visits in Lille. A place where to walk around but also where to learn something about the history of militar defense of the cities. Used from the citizens more like a park, it will make you spend two or three nice hours of your time in Lille.

The Citadel was built between 1667 and 1670 by order of Louis XIV, after taking the town from the Spanish. The Citadel is a masterpiece, it is beautiful and well maintained in the inside. It is off limits to unauthorized personnel since there is an active Military headquarters in there. If you get the chance to enter the area, do... More

Would not go out of my way to see this. Grounds are not kept up. Did not see any organized displays. Just an old fort you can walk though.

Nice to walk in the park but finding the citadel was a little disappointing as you cannot go inside as its a military building. The park itself could use a facelift, nice area for the children to play and a funfair close by which I imagine when open would be very popular.

i love castles and such like, so when we where in Lille we ventured to the park and Citadel, we walked from the old town, and came across the big car park, as ou stand there looks more like a waste ground, first we noticed sign for Zoo which was very good then walked to the Citadel, the walls looked...
