Great way to spend you Sunday morning, while exploring this interesting market where you can find, and taste, all sorts of local stuff. Try croissaints in the main hall, they are amazing.

The Wazemmes neighbourhood feels a bit Berlin-meets-Camden. Rough and raw. The marketplace was closed when I was there. But I can imagine it being lively.

We visited on a Thursday, when the outside market is open as well as the indoor market. We got the metro to Gambetta, then it is only a two minute walk to the market itself. The streets surrounding the market are full of bars, cafes and local shops. The area has a completely different vibe to the touristy feel of central Lille, so gives you a much better insight into everyday French life. The outside market has a range of stalls selling just about everything. Inside the market hall, it's mainly food for sale – a lot of it looks very appetising. The whole visit is completely different to wandering around the museums etc. of central Lille. Take an hour or so off from the tourist trail and enjoy observing real France.…
