The town of Bayeux, in Normandy, lies 30 kilometres north-west of Caen. Bayeux War Cemetery is situated in the south-western outskirts of the town on the by-pass (D5), which is named Boulevard Fabian Ware. On the opposite side of the road stands the Bayeux Memorial. BAYEUX WAR CEMETERY, which was completed in 1952, contains 4,144 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War, 338 of them unidentified. There are also over 500 war graves of other nationalities, the majority German. The BAYEUX MEMORIAL stands opposite the cemetery and bears the names of more than 1,800 men of the Commonwealth land forces who died in the early stages of the campaign and have no known grave. They died during the landings in Normandy, during the intense fighting in Normandy itself, and during the advance to the River Seine in August.

Although we are Australians, we found the cemetery to be very moving. We congratulate the French Government for their care and sensitivity to such an area.

The Cemetery is very quiet and very moving. I am in my 20s and found it very sad as I thought of what many of those buried here of the same age must have gone through and pondered if I could ever do the same....More

Unlike the American and German cemeteries within a few miles from Bayeux, the British cemetery allows families to post a plaque with their son's, brother's, father's story. Heartbreaking stories.

Similar to the nearby American Cemetery this one again has thousands of white grave markers, all with the name and rank of soldiers who were killed during the Normandy landings and later battles. A sobering sight.

A good example of the British commonwealth graves commission which has many of these cemeteries of varying sizes spread throughout Northern Europe. This is a large plot with many of the casualties resulting from the invasion, but there are a number killed earlier. In spite...More

A lovely tribute to the brave men that sacrificed their lives for the cause of humanity. Easy to walk to.

Very easy to get to if you are in the Normandy area. Near the town of Bayeux, France. Beautifully laid out with flowers at each cross. More colorful than the equally moving American Cemetery. Easy parking.

Beautiful place sad to see so many young men who gave their lives. It is beautifully kept like all the cemetery's.

Words cannot describe the feelings you get when you walk through this cemetery. My heart bled for the families as I walked passed the graves.

We stayed at Mercure hotel Omaha Beach. It's about 10-15min from Bayeux. It's a nice hotel.
