I love visiting local churches, so was sad to find the doors to this one were locked. Walked around the grounds and found the graveyard to be in stunning disrepair. Monet family grave was beautifully planted as well as that of a local dignitary. The contrast was depressing.

Magnificent pianoconcert of an hour. A pity that there were so little people. The performer, mister Hugue Reiner gave an extraordinary performance. Afterwards we felt a bit ashamed abort the fact that we paid only 10 euro's.
Programme: improvisions of composers during the periode of impressionisme like Dubussy and Faure .
At least every sunday, but also during the week, he gives this concert with the tenor J. Bresse in this caracteristic church in Giverny.

We walked up here to find where Monet was buried. To be honest I thought it would be something grand since he's one of the world's most famous painters but it's nothing special at all, just a small modest gravestone that if you weren't looking you would miss.
There is a small size graveyard in the back and inside the church is quite nice. Its got a beautiful wooden interior inside.

This church situated on the other end of the street, a fairly long walk distance. The cemetery at ground included the Monet family and the a crew of WWII Royal Air Force.
If time permitted, worth the walk.

This was truly our easiest - and according to the teenagers, the funnest! - day of outside of Paris-proper. Trains leave Gare de Lyon about every 1-1/2 hours for the small town of Vernon. It is just a little over an hour's ride, and when you disembark, the cafe directly across the street from the station rents bicycles. We paid about $15 USD each, and left a driver's license behind as "insurance." Any map will point you through the village and across the river toward the traffic roundabout that has signs to Giverny, but go past the roundabout to what appears to be a parking lot/alleyway beside the corner drug store. Cut through that alley and you will find yourself on the hike/bike trail that will take you straight there without having to dodge automobiles.
It is a wonderfully pleasant ride beside streams, pastures and small cottages, and only takes about 45 minutes at a leisurely pace. When you near Giverny, the pathway splits ... one way to the right crosses over the main road and takes you into the "lower" part of Giverny where you will find the back entrance to the car park, and great bicycle stands under the trees toward the front. The left fork turns into the Rue de Monet, and will take you directly to the front door of the Impressionist museum, and Monet's house and gardens. Taking this route passes you by the "upper" or front entrance of the same car park, as well.
Make certain of the time your return train leaves Vernon for Paris, and allow enough time to bike back and turn in your wheels. You may even want to leave time for a nice ice cream or drink before the train pulls into the station. All bikes have baskets (and bells!), so picnic supplies are easily transported, as well as any purchases made at the wonderful gift shop in Monet's former studio. The only warning is that the bike seats are a bit hard, so I recommend tying a sweater or jacket around the seat for extra cushioning.
Vernon's main street has some wonderful small shoppes, patisseries, and the village church sits just before the bridge over the river. Enjoy a break from the smog and traffic in Paris, and come to understand how Monet was so truly inspired by this environment!

Worth seeing if you're making a stop to tour Monet's house. Interesting monument to WWII British bomber crew whose plane crashed nearby. You can enter the chuch from a side entrance. Very interesting ancient interior. Monet's remains are interered outside torwards the back of the church (near the WWII monument).

Nice to see this place still standing and being maintained. Has been fixed/repaired and mended to preserve its structural integrity. The garden section where Claude Monet is buried has grown up significantly and doesn't seem to be maintained as well as it used to be. The cemetery in general has grown somewhat and many grave sites are crumbling and in disrepair. If you're in Giverny you're probably there to see the Monet gardens and house so include this on your trip.. no cost for the church visit. It's just down the street from Monet's house within easy walking distance.

When visiting Giverny take a little time and walk up the road to the Giverny Church. The church itself is very typical of a small village church but in the grounds there is a graveyard which contains the grave site of Claude Monet. It is worth a visit to seethe final resting place for Monet in his beloved Giverny. It is not a long walk but well worth doing as you're not likely to return.

We went to visit Monet's tomb which is fascinating as a social record but the grave that impressed us the most was the one to the unknown crew of an RAF bomber that crashed outside Giverny during 1944. The simple respect and gratitude of the locals for these 7 airmen was immensely touching.

Very old church, so it was a shame we couldn’t go inside. Interesting stroll around the cemetery, with the Monet family grave and a moving monument to 7 WW2 British airmen who died when their plane crashed nearby.

If I just want to enter the graveyard and see Monet’s grave, can I do that at any time? I’ll be in Giverny in the evening and would like to take a stroll around the village, will I be able to get into the graveyard or will it be locked? Thanks
Written August 14, 2019
I don’t remember there being a gate at all so it should be fine to walk into the graveyard at any time. The church itself may be locked, though traditionally churches are not locked at night so even that may still be open.

I am going to be in Giverny on April 2nd. We are on a Viking River Cruise. The cruise has a tour of Monet’s Gardens. I would like to atten Mass here on Easter Sunday. What time will Mass be celebrated?
Written March 21, 2018
Beautiful little church, but I don't know time of Mass. Sorry.
