I found it quite gruesome (the medical experiments and hospital atmosphere) but my partner loved all that, so horses for courses.

Maybe the unenthusiastic attendant should have been an indicator. This small museum, in Gustave Flaubert's boyhood home, also housed his father's medical practice. The collection is eclectic but at times a puzzling mix of medical oddities, art, pharmaceutical containers and books. It was very interesting...More

Who has not heard of Madame Bovary? I went seeking more about the novelist and his character. Found his birth bed. The museum was more about antiquated medical fads, mummies and ideas about pregnancy in hospital life in 1910. More about his father than about...More

Hidden away to the left of the grand entrance of the Préfecture which has replaced the former general hospital (the last major civil building erected before the Revolution). Interesting on three accounts: this is where Flaubert's father and Flaubert himself lived ; this is where...More

Very interesting. My wife adored it, took loads of photos. The section on pregnancy and child birth was especially interesting (she is currently 33 weeks pregnant, 27 at the time) and we will certainly return for another visit someday.

The home of the Dr Flaubert. Treasures for Flaubert lovers. Even Loulou the parrot! Just outside of the historic pedestrian zone not far from the Joan of Arc church.

As a medical practitioner I found the medical museum aspect quite interesting from a history of medicine perspective, but it's not for kids - too graphic and grotesque at times. You'll see some medical oddities not seen elsewhere, except at the old time carnival. The...More

Don't let my heading put you off. It's worth a visit. But the medical part is quite graphic. Very little English so take a guide or perhaps they have an Audi system. Lovely gardens too
