The Machines de l’Ile is an artistic and a tourist project. It is a blend of the invented worlds of Jules Verne, the mechanical universe of Leonardo da Vinci, and the industrial history of Nantes, on an exceptional site in the former shipyards. A ride on the 12-meter tall Great Elephant, climb aboard the Marine Worlds Carrousel of 27 moving sea creatures or the Heron Tree to fly over the hanging gardens.

I've visited several times now and never cease to be amazed - whilst The Elephant gets much deserved attention there is a lot more to see here! When you're done, then a nice walk by the Loire off to the left of the machines is well worth it.

We have visited twice on trips to France in our Motorhome. The machines are very unique - especially the elephant and giant ant! You cannot see anything like them in England. I was able to go on the back of the giant ant and move its legs and antennae whilst it was moving around with four others on its back!... More

Definitely worth visiting while in Nantes. It is more exciting when it is a bit busier. We came really early in the morning and even though we did manage to take nice pictures because of that, more people would have added more thrill while riding the machines. Great nevertheless!

One of the best tourist experiences ever. A friend and I were spending the weekend in Nantes and le grand éléphant got our attention when we were doing our research before the trip. What a great experience! It is a marvel of engineering, within easy walking distance of the town centre - not to be missed. A tip - go... More

We arrived just as the mechanical elephant was leaving loaded with folks up top. How exciting to see it go. We then enjoyed in amazement the adventures of the other mechanical beasts in the old ship building. Unfortunately no one was working in the workshop as that would be interesting too. Fascinating work done by masters.

After museums and fortes and chateaus this was a really fun break. We were traveling through France with good friends who live just outside of Paris (they are French). They had no idea of this attraction. We stayed at a small Gites and explored Nante. My husband had heard of Les Machines and was intrigued. None of us rode any... More

Visited this attraction last year with friends and it was brilliant. Although I couldn't go on the elephant due to ill health, it was brilliant to watch our friends on it. Les Machines are housed in a futuristic type of air shelter. It's a ten minute walk from the tram line over the bridge. If I remember rightly, on the... More

If you're in Nantes with kids: go! If you're in Nantes without kids: go! Really fun and fascinating. We got there just as the giant mechanical elephant was beginning its walk, with a full complement of passengers; and the other inventions are just as fun and astounding. You went to Nantes and didn't go to Les Machines -- that's just... More

We have been a number of times, always a mini spectaculer. Well worth the visit. You can, at a cost, ride the elephant and your trip includes a stop at the carousel included. The attached "museum/workshop" is a bit expensive for what it is. Interesting but "worth the entry fee?"

It is really fun! There is a carroussel and a big elephant and a spider! You can ride them and it is a really great experience to take you back to your childhood!
