Overview
More
The Castle of the Dukes of Brittany houses the Nantes History Museum, displaying more than 850 historic objects with multimedia installations in a contemporary layout. The former ducal palace also holds temporary exhibitions and cultural events all year round. Besides, the rampart walk offers a number of viewpoints of the fortress. The night-time illuminations further reveal the architectural complexity of the site. A restaurant and a gift shop are as well at your service.

Beautiful chateau with a great view over Nantes. You can spend a lot of time here in the museum and walking around the place.

Worth visiting when in Nantes. There are always extra exhibitions that change during the year. Good information available and friendly staff assisting. Highly recommended

If you want to feel that you are in an old time season, visit this castle. It's not faraway from the city center. Beside it there are a large square and a park where you can have a relax if the weather is good

This is an excellent chateau & museum. There are exhibits on the history of the city, from its founding through to today. It was recently reconstructed, finished in the early 2000's. Its been exquisitely redone.

The castle itself is relatively small and you are restricted to mainly the outside areas. The moat is nice and there are plenty of benches for picnics. The museum tour (not free) is amazing, includes 34 rooms of items chronologically through the time when Nantes...More

There are many other chateaus in France that are more beautiful, but if you're in Nantes, then this is a must see. It gave us a much better idea of the history of the city and region. Good for 1.5 - 2 hours.

Very average as castles go, but worth a visit to the photos and walk along the ramparts. You are probably better off to stick with the outside area and not bother with the interior.More

Dear traveler2001074, I really apologise for your visit of the museum of Nantes history did not fullfil your expectations. Most of the interiors were destroyed when the restoration began, that is the reason why the choice fell on a museum tracing the main historical events...More

It was build by a Bretagne Duc and his daughter Annearoumd 16 century...strong walls...strong contruction surrended by a canal and fortifications...it is situated jn the center of the city...near is the fabric of the famous Petit Beurre biscuits.

If you do not know anything about the history of Bretagne and its aristocratic lineage, this is a good place to start. The castle is nestled in the heart of historical Nantes, a stone throw away from the cathedral. Its remparts and imposing towers are...More

Definitely worth a visit to stroll into the courtyard and into the gardens and along the ramparts. All of this is free Inside didn't offer anything very much. It's marginal whether it's worth the price and certainly not a priority to visit in the city.
