Museum not to be missed: rich and varied permanent collections, beautiful renovated building, often quality temporary exhibitions, and comfortable service areas/toilets. In short, we come back with pleasure. And don't forget to look at the dates of free entries, or go there 1 hour before closing for the super advantageous price.

Very beautiful, and rare, exhibition on hyper-realism: HYPER SENSITIVE, visible until September 3, 2023. Not to be missed.
It's difficult not to break down and visit a few rooms of the museum as you wish, and I often go back to see two paintings by Chagall.

Very nice museum with very friendly staff. Unfortunately, we did not have much time, but we certainly enjoyed both the setting and the exhibitions. Some Nantes artists, but also Chagal, Monet, Rodin. I was particularly impressed by the painting of the Waterloo battlefield after the battle. Picasso's paintings are also beautiful - overall, there was a good representation of very well-known and (for me) less well-known artists. As a Dane who is not fluent in French but is fluent in English, it would have been nice to also have an English translation for each painting, which we are used to in Denmark. But make no mistake about the most interesting Nantes Attraction in my eyes. Thank you for this great experience.

I had dreamed of visiting this museum for years, during my last visit it was under renovation. The disappointment was immense from the start of the visit, it is a labyrinth of rooms which can be visited at random. Very, very beautiful works are on display, but don't try to photograph them, the bright spots prevent good photos. Very disappointed

Bonjour Bruno,

Suzanne VALADON (1865-1938) was first known as a model, from the age of 15 [for Pierre Puvis de Chavannes (1824-1898), Auguste Renoir (1841-1919), Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901) who gives her first name (in place of Marie-Clémentine) then as mother of the painter Maurice Utrillo (1883-1955) and wife of André UTTER (1886-1948). It was Edgar DEGAS (1834-1917) who pushed her to paint (120 works exhibited) with a first exhibition at the age of 29). She painted many nude women (a field long reserved for male artists). From 1920, she used a dark ring to surround the flesh.

The museum is housed in the beautiful Palais des Beaux Arts and includes nine centuries of history, from the 12th to the 21st century. There are two floors, with about 34 rooms to see. Excellent organization and also excellent brochure where you can see the best works to admire.

Really nice museum. Long queue at the ticket queue despite the lovely summer weather outside! It cost 9 euros to enter. There was a cafe with fairly high prices and a shop with nice items.
The exhibition was very varied and many beautiful paintings and sculptures.
The elevator is a little hard to find but it is there. Some of the outbuildings were apparently closed so we weren't there. Unfortunately, almost all text is in French.
The building itself is an experience in itself - really beautifully restored!

A great visit for art lovers, with a collection that spans from the 14th to 21 centuries. I particularly liked the new building which wraps around from the street. On the down side, the café is a bit expensive.

This art gallery is well worth a visit. The building is interesting and the collection is varied. The trick is to skim through all of it and just linger on the things that really catch your eye. I also had lunch there but was not that impressed, there are so many better places to eat in Nantes.
Another point to note is that the gallery is right next door to the Jardin de Plantes so you can make a nice combined trip of the two.

Such a surprise to find an art museum of such quality in a relatively small city. Thé collection is large and well displayed in a spacious building.
Well worth two to three hours,
possibly more.
