Attractive square with elegant buildings and some pleasant cafes.

We enjoyed a glass of wine at one of several cafes on the edge of the Place Royale. One point of interest is a substantial display relating to the enormous damage done to the city by Allied air raids directed against the occupying Nazis during WW11.

A beautiful plaza

I didn't go into the Palace however on my walk around Nantes, I did marvel at it and spent some time in the area around it which has plenty to offer and is worth having lunch or dinner nearby

The plaza is great and rather vast providing a striking first impression and great atmosphere to enjoy a wine

the out side is stunning, that is where i should of stopped. the inside was reproduction not orginal, except for the top floor, that had original artifacts

It is all about water

I loved this square that is all about water!
There is a big fountain in the center and the real particular thing is that from time to time the water get crazy and different spray can reach any location in the square. It is better you pay attention if you don’t want to get wet. It is the first time I see this approach and I really liked it, at least during summer

The main square of Nantes

This square has a gorgeous water fountain & water features which people can run in an out of, great for cooling down on a boiling hot day. Shops and restaurants complete the picture. Well worth the visit for a bite to eat or a minute to take in the scenery.

Beautiful square with lovely fountain

First built in 18th century and the fountain was added in 19th century but rebuilt in bronze after the war. The square is surrounded by high end stores and a lovely place to visit.

Beautiful Fountain

Still a very nice square but...

Place Royale remains magnificent but has lost its Café Royal which has been replaced by a tavern having nothing to do with the local feel. It is right in the heart of Nantes, next to the Passage Pommeraye and Place du Commerce and the main tram station.
There is a Christmas Market in December.
