This is a wonderful place to visit. The architecture is stunning. I really enjoyed the short film which showed you how the building developed over time. The information in each room is really interesting. The painted chambers are amazing: the colours are still so vibes and the frescos so well preserved. I loved the courtyard with the temporary exhibition of... More

We made the trip out to Avignon specifically to see the Palace. It was both eye-opening and intriguing. Certainly, the first thing we saw was how spartan and rough it was. Having already seen the Vatican, we expected the palace to be much larger and more grandiose. However, given the time period for which it was used, we can see... More

Our tour guide was very good and gave us lots of information about the history of the popes that were here. She also sang for us so that we could appreciate the acoustics which were pretty spectacular. Amazing how much was built so long ago and is still standing.

Very impressive site on both the outside and inside. We found the audio guide to be excellent for the tour of the palace. There are many rooms to tour and it was interesting to learn the functions of the rooms and see what was built by various popes to show the power of the papacy.

What a magnificent place. There are lots of grounds to walk around, gardens, ponds with ducks and breath taking views from the city and its surroundings. We didn’t take the inside tour since it was said to last over 2 hours and we only had a day in the city. We decided to walk around the palace and also follow... More

It's worth a visit, impressive accommodation for the old popes and some interesting history, but the amount of information in English is a little restricted. Some of the best preserved frescos are impressive and the restored dining room ceiling a work of craftsmanship. However the buildings have to some extent suffered from state sponsored vandalism over the years.

As we live in a town which was closely involved with the Popes and the Konzil in the 1400!s, we found this very interesting to visit and learn more about the Papal history. The palace is huge, and has gone through several cycles of additions, demolitions and other changes in it's lifetime. Even if you don't know much of the... More

If you visit Avignon, don't miss the pope' s palace. The Palais des Papes is a historical palace . It is one of the largest and most important medieval Gothic buildings in Europe. Startes building in 1252. There Can be a Lotte of tourist,so try to avoid midday visits.
