If you go to the Monastere de Cimiez, go into this small attached museum, located to the right of the church. It gave some history of the monks and their beliefs, showed how they lived in one of their cells and I learned that there used to be at least 20 living there, but now there are 5 living on... More

This small but very interesting museum is housed in the Franciscan monastery at the top of Cimiez hill but is largely missed by the large number of visitors to the Musee Matisse nearby and even by those who come to visit the attractive garden here. This really is a hidden gem. Wonderful free museum about the Franscian order within the Monastery. For a small fee there is an English language guide. Really interesting display boards, excellent images, and some fascinating objects. A number of the rooms still have their historic Murals If you are in the area do call in: thoroughly enjoyable.

When I got off the bus near Musse Matisse, I walked through a park, came across the parking lot, and found a small church. The museum was right side of the church. I visited there before Christmas.
