The monastery itself has little to offer as an attraction (which obviously is not it's primary purpose) but the gardens are a surprise, being more the sort of thing you would expect to find in a chateau. There is rather a nice formal Italian terrace and several colourful flowerbeds. Great views over the city towards the Med. Its good to include as part of a stroll around the other attractions in Cimiez. On its own its probably worth 30 minutes or so.

This garden is right beside the Archeological Museum and the Matisse Museum. We were there is mid-May and the roses were is full bloom. There is also a small formal garden with stone benches. It feels like a retreat in the middle of the city. Careful, though, if you go on a Saturday. It's a popular place for wedding photos. When we were there, we counted six bridal parties.

I recommend first visiting Castle Hill and then later in your stay going up to the Cimiez Monastry, gardens and museum park. Walking in the beautiful little Monastry garden is very peaceful and the views over Nice are great. It is particularly nice to get a different perspective of the sudden quite small Castle Hill. When we took bus 17 up to Cimiez, early afternoon in April there was no problem getting a seat, buses every 30 mins, and all part of the public transport network.

Nice garden to walk through, good view over Nice. The nearby park was looking very dry and brown but this area was still very green and flowering

Adjacent to the Monastere, the gardens have superb views over much of Nice and have many shady spots for a packed lunch. Take time to inhale and appreciate the many different scents of the plants in bloom. Late May seems to be a particularly good time for the flowering plants, especially roses. Also close by are the Museums of Matisse and local archaeology, including Roman remains. A good half-day trip. Buses 15 and 17 will get you there from central Nice. We didn't see any cafes or restaurants nearby, so bring your own food / drinks.

I was always interested in going to Cimiez. You can take the 15 bus from behind Mangos Avenue Jean Médecin. It costs 1.50 €. Beautiful and peaceful location with a nice view over the city. Take the time to also have a walk around Cimiez. The architecture is simply stunning.

Don't miss this beautiful cloister garden when you are visiting the Matisse museum. It's just nearby and very well worth that few extra steps. From here you'll have a 360 degrees view over Nice and the "Baie des Anges". Spectacular!

Set in Cimiez, behind Nice city (a sort of Kensington of Nice) The Monastery gardens are delightful to stroll around taking in the views over the city of Nice or just sit and enjoy the peace a tranquillity. Close by are the gardens with olive trees where they hold the Jazz Festival every year, these are also pleasant to stroll around, glance into the Roman Ruin foundations, and have a hot chocolate or coffee in the open air cafe, looking across to the local Nicois playing Boule to the Matisse Museum on the other side of the park.

We took the tram to the end by the hospital. It was a steep walk up to the monestery, but worth the walk. View over Nice and lots of flowers (even though it was beginning of march).
