It took Baroness Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild, one of the most original women on the French Riviera, seven years to build one of the most beautiful sites on the Côte d’Azur. An enlightened art enthusiast who travelled back and forth across France and Europe, Béatrice de Rothschild built up an incomparable and eclectic collection of masterpieces: priceless Sèvres and Vincennes porcelain, works by Fragonard, paintings by the masters (Boucher, Carpaccio, Tiepolo, etc.), Louis XVI furniture, and so on.

Long story short the villa was actually built to be a museum and true enough the owner did just that and gave it to France. Value is most likely more than $500 million and you get to visit for about $15 Euro. The Villa is worth seeing as you see original furniture, artwork, china, rugs and the way it was... More

Beatrice really had issues, and a lot of time to plan her house and garden. A real treat and an interesting story.

This is a most beautiful stately home and garden, left to France by Mme Rothschild. The house is in excellent condition, and a good guide, such as we had, present the home and it's owner's tastes at the beginning of the 20th century really well. The formal gardens are extensive and simply beautiful. There is a "dancing" fountain well worth... More

The Villa and Gardens of Ms. Rothschild are absolutely amazing. From the main salon there is the most magnificent view out onto the water. The villa houses many wonderful collections- paintings, china, jade, etc., which gives visitors a sense of life in the villa. The logia provides a wonderful view of the gardens. The villa provides (free of charge) a... More

What an elegant house and beautiful gardens . there are 35 gardens all with their own theme. The view over the bay is spectacular. She must have been so rich, for a private person, to build this. Everything about it is beautiful. We also had a drink on the terrace, and there was al lovely souvenir shop. They were a... More

We visited in April, if you are reasonable fit is nice to walk to the Villa from the station, and you can then walk back via cap ferrat and have a pic nic overlooking the water. The audio tour (included in the admission price, not an extra as in many places) helps bring the building to life and explains a... More

Elegance abounds a this fabulous villa complete with fabulous views of Villefranche and St. Jean Cap Ferrat and bay. If you history and interesting people, then you will want to visit the Villa Ephrussi de Rothchild. And the gardens, especially at this time of year are lovely. I spent almost 4 hours there, touring the house, the gardens and having... More
