For over 400 years, the Citadel rings the city. Element of the defence of the port the most important between Antibes and Toulon for centuries, it is now one of the few monuments of this magnitude of the Var coast. Proud of its rich maritime past, Saint-Tropez has decided to create a modern museum in the dungeon of the town's citadel, allowing all visitors to discover the daily lives of men and women who shaped over the centuries the Saint-Tropez of today.

The view from the citadel is great and the museum is fantastic! The walk up from the port or old town is not too demanding, the town map makes it seem further than it really is. A must to see and do when in town.

You have to walk up a long, long hill of steps to get to this place. Admission was only 3Euro per person. They did a nice job with restoration. The maritime museum is small but nice. The best part of this visit was the amazing...More

The maritime museum within the Citadelle is brilliant - not to be missed! Walking up to the Citadelle from the town is a worthwhile excursion in itself. To then go into the Citadelle costs 3 Euros which to my mind is a real value for...More

Although this museum tells the story of St Tropez's history it was disappointingly average. It's saving grace is the view from the top floor.

A very interesting visit, tastefully restored and a great place for the views. The entry fee is extremely reasonable too.

The museum opened only 3 years ago; but what a treat! Lots of things to see and to learn, well organized, interesting material and descriptions; the history of the town, the importance of the port over the centuries, life of the fishermen, all about local...More

Recently renovated, interesting facts, the Maritime Museum and if you come out, beautiful views of the surrounding area and the coast. Definitely worth a visit!

The Maritime Museum has been extensively developed since my last visit a few years ago. It is now very impressive - a veritable rabbit warren of connect rooms and exhibitions. It comprehensively tells the story of Saint-Tropez's history and maritime life. Very interesting. Great views...More

Hi - How close can you get to the citadel, and more importantly, can you get a great view of the harbour/town after the citadel has closed? I was hoping to go up there around 20:00 when the sun is setting, but the museum will have closed by then.

Hello, there is a path on the Citadel feet where you can have a lovely view to St. Tropez harbour. Even if the view from the Citadel is of course worth to see.
