In a quiet short walk around the rock, you can have a great view on the amazing landscape around. Best to do in autumn. You can also try the rock of vergisson.

I was going to write a review but having read Benjamin's I thought there was nothing more to be said. I too went up the scramble and the chimney but would only add it would be better not to do it alone. The cafe at the bottom, Maison de Solutre , is terrific for a simple lunch and glass of... More

We first scrambled up Roche Solutre more than thirty years ago before the relatively easy path was marked out. Being in the area and having seen it many times from the motorway since, we thought that staying in Macon we would revisit. The vineyards and the villages remained much as we remembered but the rock has gained a brilliant interpretative... More

Overlooking the vineyards of Pouilly-Fuisse, this is one of those short walks you just have to do. The views from the top are great - you get to survey the surroundings in a 360° arc, and it is a worthwhile picnic spot - unfortunately a little spoilt because of previous people's picnics. Take your rubbish home! The footpath is a... More

We hiked up the short route, which had several short steep scrambles, seeming to end at the base of a single-pitch rock face. While we wished we had brought climbing gear, we were not prepared for it (several permanent anchors were in place for support routes likely around 5-7 to 5-9). You could likely also find some traditional climbing ropes,... More

We really enjoyed climbing the Rock of Solutre. We got slightly confused initially and went up to the top car park (which is larger) and then came back down to the other smaller one which is hidden away carefully behind trees - both free, no toilets quite there but nearby. It was a hot afternoon and we got very hot... More

A very fulfilling walk to the top. The terrain is not difficult, but we were there on a very hot day and EVERYONE was sweating (not just us!!). If you're travelling on a hot day do be sure to take plenty of water as there isn't a shop on the site. You can also visit a prehistoric museum here, but... More

Great view from the top of this landmark. You will walk to the top in 30-45 min. No special shoes needed, sneakers are fine, no flip flops. There's also a panoramic view just 200 further where you can have a picknick. Bring your own, there's no shop in the erea.

On a clear day, you can see the sno-capped Alpine summits in the distance. Very easy paths lead up to a rocky outpost (watch your children !) from which you have a clear 360° view - weather permitting. Only drawback : the place can be crowded.
