We visited three museums at the Citadel and thought the Volti Museum was beyond fantastic. The ancient stone walls and rooms were the perfect backdrop for the simple bronze sculptures of Volti. It was beautiful to see such a perfect marriage of old rough stone architecture and sculpture. I loved this museum, it was the highlight of our day.

Went to the Citadelle and 3 Museums during a drastic winter downpour but it all added to the experience. The Volti exhibit is breathtaking especially arranged in the adjoining stone caves. Admission is free to all museums. Walk around the grounds, there is a hidden little tiled roof hut that has amazing views of both Villefranche ports. If you walk... More

All the museums and exhibitions inside the La Citadel are free of cost. We had a good time checking out all the exhibitions and the quality of art exhibited was really superior. Must visit in case you are an art lover and have free time on hand.

If you are staying in VilleFranche go to the tourist office and do the guided tour they offer on a Friday morning. It is 1.5 hours & costs 5 euros each. You get a guided tour of the area ,the Citadel which included the museum with the Volti sculptures. It was a fantastic tour & our knowledgable guide Amber could... More

We were looking forward to seeing the works of art but were not allowed entrance into the museums because they were preparing for a private event. We then decided to have a walk around the gardens of the Citadelle but were asked to leave by an official who was locking the gates half an hour before the published closing time.

You can easily spend an hour or two wandering around looking at the interesting sculptures, art gallery, views and various other interesting places within the citadel. Definitely worth a visit if in the area.
