We had walked the coastal trail from Nice to Villefranche and found out from the tourist office how to find our way back to Nice via Mt Alban. There were a lot of stairs involved( and I mean a lot!) which took us on to the main road where we found signs for the way up to Fort du Mont... More

My return to Mont Alban was a time capsule. My father was stationed on the flagship for the 6th fleet and we lived on Mont Boron, not far below the fort. Many a day my friends and I would play near the fort and often would look out and see my Dad's ship steaming into the harbor at Villefranche-sur-Mer. This... More

This fort contains a working Hotel deVille, which means that the workings of the town of Villefranche-sur-Mer are conducted daily. I would have liked a tour, but it was not apparent how to get one. There were art exhibits in two of the areas I did what to see, however, (the areas where the soldiers slept and the chapel) so... More

Spectacular views from the top to both east and west. Much quieter than the other castle in Nice, but there is no access to the fort itself. There were fewer visitors on my visit, so it was not crowded. Some nice walking trails around the fort and nearby. Buses run from the city up to the fort and there are... More

Our tour guide Ingrid drove us up here, and the views are simply stunning. Overlooking Nice and the port, the views are even better than those on Castle Hill. Highly recommended especially on a clear blue day.

Weather was picture perfect. We had a hard time at first locating the steps behind church that go up, up, up. Once we did we enjoyed the hike. The view from the top of fort was breathtaking. We took a different walk down through the trees. So quiet and not many tourist.

Didn't explore the fort but did take the seaside walk with its stunning views over the town and bay.

The highlight of the visit is to walk the waterside path around the outside of the wall between the port and the old town.

I printed off a walk from the internet to take us up here - it was a fabulous trail, up the Escaliers Campo Quadro, but be warned, it's not for the faint hearted... took us the next 2 days to recover! I'm glad we did it, but next time I think we will take the 80 bus which I believe... More
