The best view and light for photos is just before sunset. It's a spectacular view of the waterfront.

Enormous building - just look at the model painstakingly made from matchsticks to get an idea of the size and complexity of the building. The mosaic floors and decorated walls and vaults are great examples of craftsmanship.

Visited in February when weather was warm but not too hot and it was still nice to enjoy some shade in a truly splendid building. In a great spot on the edge of the port area it is worth spending time looking over the sea views as well.

The cathedral is near MuCEM and it is easy to take in a visit to both. This must be one of the biggest religious buildings in France. It is not very old but all of one piece. A visit will not take long but the nave is wonderfully calming and peaceful - just sit for a while. The quality of... More

Whenever people speak of Marseille, they mention the famous basilica of Notre-Dame de la Garde, Marseille's icon sitting high above the city. But there is another cathedral, another basilica, one far more on the level of the people of this port city. It is the Cathédrale Sainte-Marie-Majeure de Marseille or Cathédrale de la Major. These sister cathedrals were both commissioned... More

The cathedral is located very near Le Panier and Museum of Marseille. It is big and nice (neo bizantin style). Nice view of the harbour from esplanade near cathedral

This large Neo-Roman/Byzantine style cathedral was built between 1852-93 and is located next to the Old Port in Marseille. The stunning exterior w/ striped white & green stone from Tuscany has a decorated façade w/ portico and two domed towers plus an additional four domes. It's the 6th largest church in the world w/ room for 3000 people measuring 142... More

The stained glass is amazing here, as is the rest of the artistry. We didn't spend a ton of time here, but it's definitely worth a visit if you love stained glass.
