After a purchase following the advice of a seller who doesn't know much. Not having and not wanting to order the right part.
I requested a refund.
I was kindly given a credit with limited validity (3 months).
One in two salespeople don't know any more than you! Prices 20 to 30% more expensive than anywhere else.
A cashier is borderline polite.
This is the last time I will go to this store.

Hardware store with a wide range of goods.
Excellent range of goods. They have most soaps, especially if you are short of time and want to buy Marseille soap. The shop assistants are very knowledgeable, and some speak Japanese.

If you like to roam through Manufactum in Germany, you will find the shop here, which looks like it is the nucleus of it. A wonderful choice to fall in love with and lose. Plus premises that breathe history. And sales staff who often seem cast by Tim Burton. I don't know a better place.

I had high hopes for this place given that it looks great but the staff member I spoke to was rude and offhand and left me feeling embarrassed and upset. Clearly, if you have to ask how much something costs here then you shouldn't be shopping at Maison Empereur.

An old - probably the oldest - department store and hardware store in Marseille, split in several shops. Try to avoid Saturdays in December though, it’s overcrowded. They sell high quality items at a reasonable price. This place is amazing.

How did I miss maison Empereur on my two previous trips to Marseille? I actually liked it much better than Dehillerain in Paris. The selection of merchandise is better, and the store is vastly more interesting. Wander through the various departments and be amazed. I think the best souvenir from Marseille is one of their navy aprons with the store’s emblem on the front.

We went to visit here as suggested by one of the locals. The place was magnificent. It feels like you can travel back into time how the French people used to buy stuffs for their homes. Everything that you can ever need for your home is here even toys for kids and everything is vintage looking. The staffs inside the shop was very helpful as well and despite our broken french. I love this shop and the fact that it's roughly 200 years old. This is a must see when you're in Marseille.

The lay out of the store, as confusing as it is, brings you right back to the days when electricity wasn't yet a commodity.

The store holds a variety of things one could need in the house. Admittedly, most of these things aren't really the kind of stuff you would buy as a tourist, but they do have some nice smaller items that you could stuff in a suitcase :) Keep in mind that the products are quality goods, but it comes with a price.

I don't think I have ever seen such an extensive range of diverse products in one shop - actually several adjoining shops. And this is not trivial shelf-filling stock. In the knife shop, for example, I saw knives ranging in price from 12 to 460 EU - the latter was a totally exquisite hand-made pocket knife. The stock in the ironmongery section comprised practical and useful items which were very reasonably priced. One vitrine was full of specialised shaving kit, including cut-throat razors, and another with leather-working tools. We bought some really nice glasses which were hand-blown in Morocco - again, very reasonably priced.
I read the review complaining of 'rude and arrogant staff' and wondered if the reviewer was talking about the same shop - all those we dealt with were both friendly and very helpful.
Such an emporium is bound to be attractive to tourists but I suspect that only a small percentage of sales derive from that market. And, for the place to be so successful after six generations of one family, they must be doing something right!
An amazing shop which I very highly recommend.

Really one of the best place to be in Marseille. Shopping in here is crazy and magic and you can find really the best gadgets and presents like you were in an ancient time. It takes at least one hour to discover all the items showing. From quincallerie to kitchen, from furniture to ancient games, they have the best. Not really cheap but quality at the very top. Mujii' style in an european way.
