I was very surprised to see how big their collection is. A must see in Marseilles. Well presented and very interesting. Sadly no English text, only French, which was a bit frustrating. Also, none of the staff spoke English when I wanted to ask about one of the exhibitions mentioned at their website. But otherwise I highly recommend it.

Well presented, rich, interesting... Gives a good idea of ancient times. Had to rush through part of the museum because closing time was drawing near

This museum is near the old port harbor and we found a way to reach it with our stroller without a lot of stairs to navigate. The interior courtyard provided a reprieve from the cold breeze and we found ourselves actually shedding a few layers to sit in our short sleeved shirts and soak up sun on the veranda. Tickets... The collections of the Museum aren't the most interesting in France but it might be worth a visit with kids. And "Le Musée d'archéologie méditerranéenne" is located in "La Vieille Charité" which is a former hospital located in one of the most interesting part of Marseille... "Le Panier".

great historical narrative given by our guide during a visit of this museum on our walking tour. The church in the middle of the complex was especially enjoyable, but no flash on the camera was allowed

The Mediterranean Archaeology Museum is housed in a historic Baroque complex called Vieille Charité and is located in The Panier district off the Vieux Port. It was formerly a poorhouse and then an orphanage throughout its (4) century history. Children were found jobs, as time passed the work of la Vielle Charité grew, the number of inmates increased. The complex... More

Marseille France was last stop on Costa Crociere Mediterranean cruise- found the port and people of France especially nice- did not notice any rudeness towards Americans- tried to be respectful to everyone and this was an amazing place to walk around for a few hours and explore- definitely recommend.

The old hospital itself is worthseeing. The museum is devided with respect to the regions (Egypt, Greece, Africa, America...). I recommend particularly the visit of the egyptology exhibition. Your tickets allow you to have lunch outside of the museum and come back if you haven't finished the visits.
