Perfection in the Alps
Feb. 2020 • Family
Understated elegance with every detail carefully addressed provides an exceptional ski getaway for those seeking charm and grace. Perfect location with easy access the slopes while still feels like a remote corner of the Alps with an exceptional view. Attentive service and amenities in this quintessential alpine lodge hits all the high notes. Already look forward to my return!

Hidden germ in the alps
Feb. 2020 • Couples
We came to Chamonix as a group of friends for Heliskiing. We booked a room as a couple in les Grands Montets and weren’t disappointed. The hotel is located 15min away from the center but there is a ski left next to it. The hotel is small but lovely and very cosy, typical wooden chalet style. There is a restaurant as well as a spa and you can even book massages. The room (we booked esprit montagne Mont Blanc room) was nice and pretty spacious with a wonderful view on the mountains. The bathroom is very old fashioned but works well.
The staff was very helpful and nice. Plus, the parking was free of charge.
We recommend this hotel but only if you have a car as it’s pretty hard to find taxis, especially in the evenings.

The best massive in the CHX VALLEY
Jan. 2019 • Solo
Simply put, LGM has the best hors-piste in the whole valley, & on well snowed in conditions, one can ride all the way down through the woods. Mind you, during clowdy/foggy days in LGM one can loose one's life for sure so better listen to the pistes securistes. + it can be a bit cold on the non-sunny side in the mornings.

Great slopes but terrible management and broken lifts all season
Feb. 2019 • Couples
We visited Cham for the winter season and had heard rave reviews about Grand Montets for some amazing pistes and off piste. We already knew of the big lift fire at Lognan mid station that happened before the season even started but were surprised they didn't get it even close to up and running in the time they had after announcing immediately after the fire it would definitely be open for the winter season...

Don't get me wrong, the slopes here are amazing. Some of our favourite actually in Cham valley and the broken lifts meant lots of people skinned up top to get to the higher powder. However whilst we were there two more lifts went down and fully out of action.

Bochard went down due to movement detected in the struts that hold up the lifts during regular checks. They took it out of action for a week to fix it and had a reopening date for a week later. When we hit this date they said it had been too warm and they hadn't been able to fix the lift yet. A week turned into 2 which turned to 3 and then took us to the end of the season. For reference the bochard lift was the highest working lift as the Main lift was completely out of action all season due to the fire.

To add insult to injury when we had some new powder near the end of the season Herse (the third highest lift) then went down for a few days.

They offered an incredibly pathetic 10% off lift passes for Grand Montets when bochard went down which really should have been offered all season due to the main lift being down.

Lifts do break down and things happen but some of the lifts are already very old and in need of replacement anyway. Speaking to locals in Cham we were made very aware of the terrible management of resorts across the valley. You pay a heft amount for passes and season passes for Mont Blanc Unlimited but it seems like the majority of that is pocketed rather than reinvested. It's truly a shame, there is world class skiing here but in its current state there needs to be some serious investment and management changeover to fix the issues.

Another lift broken
Mar. 2019 • Friends
Great mountain and skiing possibilities, huge shame about top grand montet lift shut it seems for 2-3 years, and now one of the other 2 main lifts, Bochard shut for who knows how long, so far 3 weeks and counting.

Great off Piste region
Feb. 2019 • Family
I you go there you have all in one. Nice posted, but most of the time you can ski off Piste in great conditions. No long waiting cues. Just great.

Old Chairlifts, Only Decent Slopes
Jan. 2019 • Family
This was the tallest of the ski mountains in Chamonix, but the chairlifts are quite dated. Chamonix is obviously not investing in improvements and keeps it the old-school charm it was twenty years ago, which is unfortunate as it could be so much more.

New lift and buvette
Jan. 2019 • Couples
The Grands Montets ski area in Chamonix has acess to some of the best off-piste terrain in the Alps, as well as some challenging, high pistes. The cable car is currently being repaired, preventing lift access to the highest pistes and off-piste glacier itineraries, but the Bochard and Herse lifts get you to 2800 and 2600m respectively. New (this year?) is the upgraded Tabe lift, now a fast 6-person chairlift, with improved access from two directions, effectively replacing two old slow lifts. Almost more welcome is a brand new kiosk serving good, cheap coffee, tea and snacks near the base of the Tabe lift, because the prices elsewhere on the mountain are increasingly eye-watering!
