Blue lake

Worth the effort, beautiful, not too far to walk. I believe some people swim in it but the water is very cold.

We did it from L'Index chairlift to lake and from lake to Flegere cable car. The path is not so difficult and lot of path going down.

The hike from Flegere station to Lac Blanc is quite strenuous and you should have proper gear. It takes about 2 hours and towards the end, the trail gets rougher and steeper. It takes only about 1 hour 15 minutes to hike back. The view is supposed to be great, but it started to rain before we arrived. The mountains... More

Great walk to Lac Blanc. The walk itself isnt' to stenuous, but you should be prepared for a bit of scrambling depending where you're coming from. The views are incredible. There is a restaurant and a self service hut, so you will find food and drink. Downside: it's very popular and growded.

We walked to Lac Blanc from Argentiere. The route is well signposted and depending on where you start from isn't too strenuous. It's best to set off early as it gets fairly busy but the views are incredible. We walked down via a different path to the way we went up and there were a lot of ladders to climb... More

Fantastic walks in this area of the valley and the strangely-coloured Lac Blanc is just one of the highlights. The vistas on every side are stunning on a good day, with views of Mont Blanc and surrounding mountains and glaciers a-plenty too. Whilst Lac Blanc is a wonder to behold in itself, I was disappointed that it was such busy... More

Best walk in the area.Stunning views of Mont Blanc and the Dru. Great paths and a good chance of seeing Chamois or Ibex, maybe a Marmot or 2.

At every turn there are extraordinary views of the majestic Alps and its glaciers, mainly the Mer de Glace. Up there its worth the view and you also would not forget the beautiful green water of the lake. It was our first hike- enjoyed to the core and we were using the trekking pole for the first time. It took... More

Hiked from Index ski station, around 75 minutes on mostly easy paths though quite undulating. The lake itself is stunning, from every angle - even went swimming (briefly!), astonishingly cold! Food and drinks available from cafe, though no sandwiches, also basic toilets. Location is simply heavenly, could spend hours and hours there, magnificent views towards Aiguille Vert and Les Drus....
