An interesting and FREE experience on an historical element of Evians - it only takes a few minutes and you can then take a walk to several "viewing points" for great views of Lac Leman. We walked back down into the town - and then rewarded ourselves with a nice, chilled glass of dry white wine!

This refurbished century old cog railway carriage system is a must for tourists during the summer months. No frills or soft seats, just a rickety wooden carriage holding about 40 people running every twenty minutes from the lakeside up to a beautiful wooded area about 200 m above the town.

This is a classic of the 1800s, a cable-driven wagon that climbs a short slope, while another wagon rides downhill on the same track and the same cable, with of course a fixed place with a rail doubling where the two wagons can travel by side in opposite directions. Here still everything is manual, with inter phone control, with the... More

Took ferry from Lausanne and had a great lunch in Evian. It is a vibrant French town with lovely reasonable prices restaurants versus Lausanne. We went into the Evian museum then took the train up the side of the mountain, there are a few walks at the top the easy one is 15 mins to the view point park, make... More

It starts just behind the Palais de Lumineire and runs up to just below the Hotel Verniaz. It is also free!!! It also runs late in the evening on... More

What a great little train to take you from Neuvecelle, at the top of the hill, down to Evian centre. It saves a very steep downhill walk, or uphill climb! It's free and runs every 20 minutes, all day till early evening. We were staying at the Hotel Ermitage, which was the top station, and there were 2 or 3... More

Free, interesting, and functional. Works for me! 6 stops from hotel to town. Shame it doesn't run in the evening to save staggering back up hill!
