Almost everyone comes for the amazing views of Lyon and the beautiful winding park at its base. It's also worth visiting inside - nothing too spectacular and at times crowded - but it's free!

I liked the contrast between the shiny white outer facade and the dim light inside. The inside indeed had the atmosphere of an orthodox church, very interesting for a French church. Don't miss to visit the crypt, right under the main church and the small...More

Beautiful vaulted ceilings. Great views of the city from the outside. We quite enjoyed the walk up the hill.

The church is beautiful from the outside, but the inside is absolutely magnificent! The mosaic work is just amazing. One of the most beautiful churches we have ever seen. From the outside there is also stunning views over Lyon. A must visit!

I've seen hundreds of ornate churches but this one is magnificent inside! We reached it by climbing up hundreds of stairs which was exhausting but fun and terrific exercise. It's pretty austere on the outside which makes the elaborate interior even more striking. There are...More

It's really worthwhile to go uphill just to see Lyon from the Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviére. Plus the Basilique is truly beautiful. If you're lucky like we were you can also listen to excellent organ concerts.

We took the vehicular up and walked down. Worth the trip, you can see the whole city. The church has been all cleaned and sparkles. We lite candles and felt very close to lost family members.

We are not religious and yet twice when visiting Lyon we have gone to the Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere. It is a breath-taking display of craftsmanship from centuries past. It's not necessary to be an art historian to be truly amazed by the incredible...More

The view from the city if beautiful from the terrace of the Basilica however, the inside is separated in a number of rooms that do not fit well with one another. The downstairs church is OK.

We are going to Paris in a couple of weeks and plan to visit Notre Dame after visiting one of the local markets. However, we have read somewhere that you could not take 'luggage' in to the cathedral, we are hoping that luggage refers to suitcase/holdalls etc. and that small backpacks are acceptable. Can anyone confirm?
