Highlights for us here included the Farmer's market (not as big as the Sunday one @ quai St. Antoine but still OK), and the viewpoints near Place Rouville. Great great views from there--bring your Nikon or your Canon for sure during late afternoon golden hour. We also were fascinated by the very unique 'Fresque Vegetale Lumiere', a strip along a... I live in Croix-Rousse since 8 months and I think this is the best place in Lyon. So tipic, and so apart from the rest of the city at the same time. Difficult to be really appreciated during a short touristic visit of the city, La Croix-Rousse is a place that needs to be lived in, with his many cosy... More

Take the C metro to the top of the hill and meander down through the pedestrian-only streets, stairways and secret traboules. It's a special part of Lyon with fantastic ambiance, fascinating silk-weaving history and great views of all of the city.

Although the walk up the hill might be strenuous the views are amazing and if you have the chance to visit between October and November there is "La vogue" where an amusement theme park is installed and you can visit surround by the local people and enjoy some "marrons chauds".

On the way up there was a couple of interesting craft shops. At the top of the very steep climb was a market with mostly food. Vegetables, cheese, home made sauces etc. nothing of very much difference hence no reward for such a hard walk. The view of the city was very good.

I fell in love with this part of Lyon. My brother-in-law lives here and my wife and I stayed with him in July this year. From the great restaurants, funky bars and fantastic markets, La Croix-Rousse has it all. The walk back up the hill at the end of a days exploring other parts of Lyon does get a bit... More

We were advised to come up to this part of the city by our hotel. I'm not sure if we didn't go to the best places but I wasn't really blown away by it. The best thing is the view of the rest of the city at the top of the hill. The tunnel out of the city from this... More

The smartest way to visit this district to exit a Metro station - La Croix Rousse stop. Then follow a series of scenic slopes and stairs back down. On the 20 minutes stroll from top to bottom, you'll pass bohemian cafes, art galleries, restaurants and used-clothing shops. The biggest produce market on Saturday at Boulevard de la Croix-Rousse as well... More

This was the traditional area for the silk weavers, and is now a mainly residential area. There is a strong sense of community here. On the Sunday we visited, there was an extensive street market, mainly with locals. Be prepared for some steep climbs, though!
