The Lyon Opera house is the scene for a multitude of shows, from opera, to dance to symphonic concerts. Its unique architecture with a shell inside the building prevents the spectators from being bothered by the vibrations of the subway.

We came here with family to see Strauss' a night in Venice. The opera is located near the town hall and is a pleasant spot for the evening (there's some break dancers around here if you want some passing entertainment!). The performance was in German with French supertitles on screens. The layout of the theatre is much more vertical than... More

The architect took an older house and rethought is completely. The result is very modern, but it works. It uses the horseshoe configuration, still the best possible configuration for an opera house, and once you get used to the dominance of the colour black the house grows on you. The opera we saw, "The Fiery Angel" by Prokofiev, was well-produced,... More

What a fantastic night with friends! Music had everyone up and dancing and the staff were very friendly and happy even though run off their feet as so busy! We didn't see much off the building as came for the music but we're lucky enough to try the food , sharing board for two excellent value at 20 euro and... More

By a quirky coincidence the name of the architect (Jean) Nouvel is almost a de facto pun on the French word for new. The external appearance is also quirky too but it somehow all fits and exudes a kind of cheerful character. The front of the original stone building is 2 high floors, arcaded at the ground and on the... More

The building is a combination of old and new (like most of Lyon). They gutted the old Opera building, leaving only the facade and foyer, placed a very modern top to it. But it does work, although slightly out of place next to the main City Hall

Designed by famous architect Jean Nouvel, the opera house named after him. The exterior was very imposing and the interior was very black, one can hardly see anything in there. The entrance foyer was tiny and not very grand as a national opera house. No, I was not convinced by its architectural style. There were some wannabe performed or practiced... More

It's a really strange architecturally speaking building. Seems unique. But i have mixed feelings about it. It surely seems a little have to get to it, while there are people dancing at the outside of the building. I didn't have the chance to attend a happening at the opera but i wish i could have seen the interior i imagine... More

The opera Damnation de Faust Berliozin Opera Nationale de Lyon. A warm welcome at the entrance, the dark foyer that suits perfectly well to that opera, one take an escalator and goes up surrounded with black, gold and red. The the hall itself, also quite dark and solemn, though seemed to be small. The seats are located quite comfortably, no... More

Opera de Lyon is inside an interesting building, which was built in the early 1990s by the French architect, Jean Nouvel. Situated in the center of the city, you won’t escape from taking a visit.
