We got to the museum rather late in the day and had only 90 minutes before closing, and they close promptly so it is hard to squeeze in very much in the final 10 minutes. Ninety minutes is not enough, simply put. If you are into antiquities - particularly Egyptian, Greek, and Roman - it would be hard to come away without being immensely impressed by the breadth and depth of those collections, as well as by their condition and presentation. And I have to admit that I spent over 45 minutes just in that part of the museum, and it was much too fast. Also, for people interested in coins, there is an entire room devoted to coins, so that could easily take up another 30 minutes. So, once you get to the more modern art, you need another hour or two just to do it justice. Overall, very impressive presentation of all the works, in good light and not at all crowded together. It is truly the kind of museum that one wants to go back to, more than once, and certainly for much longer than 90 minutes. Excellent brochures available and great bookstore.

Fortunately, we had a few days in Lyon is this museum might not have made our itinerary given all the other top things to do in town. But we were able to adjust our schedule, arrive at the open, take a break for lunch, and return for more. This is not a 2 hour walkthrough but rather a solid half a day.

Buy tickets online and they offer timed slots for reduced waiting. We did not see a lot of crowd that day and it was also raining a bit. The staff was quite helpful and informative. they offer an audio guide option. You can go for a guided tour for a time slot but it is in French usually. The place is divided into sections like Greek, Egyptian, modern art , etc. Elevators are available, for wheelchair or senior citizens but you will encounter steps occasionally. each artwork has a story of its own, so it depends on how long you want to admire the works.

This museum holds some of the most well known masters painting & sculptors works. The grounds are beautiful with the Spring flowers reaching for the Spring sun. Even the outside lockers were artificially designed! We enjoyed watching a class of youngsters with their teacher and some parent chaperones. The teachers had a captive audience. I loved that youngsters were being given the opportunity to learn about art in multiple forms at such a tender age. Rodin’s works from the very early 1900’s. The dramatic paintings and sculptures of a time gone by, though not forgotten. Each room held enough eye appealing works to hold our interest.

A most impressive collection of art: painting, sculptures, artifacts! It's a true find in Lyon! The statue outside of the museum was created by the same sculptor, Frédéric Bartholdi, who created the Statue of Liberty. The plaza is large and lively, pedestrians and bicyclists aplenty!

What a fantastic museum! It has everything: Egyptian mummies, classical sculptures, Impressionist paintings, modern art, pottery, glass, you name it. We liked it so much that we returned the next day to see a temporary exhibit "Connecter les Mondes" which was really something to see--we got there just in time, since it was closing the following day.

I spent a whole afternoon on the second floor viewing a wonderful art collection. Many artists new to me especially from the 16th-18th Century. Finished my afternoon with a cafe au lait and an amazing cake in the lovely cafe. The Musee is located on a square with other lovely buildings, cafes and fountains.
