Probably the most beautiful square in Freiburg. Dominated by the Cathedral, located in the middle and surrounded by old buildings, with beautiful architecture. Here is also the Historisches Kaufhaus/Historical Merchants' Hall and Museum für Stadtgeschichte/City History Museum.
There are several restaurants, a hotel and a big flywheel market of local producers.

It is best to visit the square in the morning when the market is open (between 8:00 to 13:00). Otherwise, the square is empty. There are also shops, souvenir stores and restaurants around the square, aside from the historical buildings. The most prominent is the red building, which is the Historical Merchant's Hall.

Very beautiful square where the cathedral is located, but also some urban complexes including the merchants' house and the archiepiscopal palace worthy of interest. It is also the place of a very lively market. Make way for very colorful houses with beautiful fountains.
In the evening you can taste local wines in a charming setting.

In this square stands the magnificent Cathedral. Farmers and traders sell their wares at the Cathedral Point of Sale here from Monday to Saturday. South of the Cathedral, the Kaufhaus (the former Palace of Commerce) stands out thanks to its red façade. Decorated with sculptures and Habsburg coats of arms. On the eastern side, the Baden Wine House looks like the romantic gateway to the Black Forest: beyond its sloping roof, the leafy hills of Schlossberg shine in the sunlight

There’s a delightful food market on Münsterplatz every day (except Sunday) from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm (Saturday until 2:00 pm).
Here, you can find fresh vegetables, meats, cheeses, bread—and grilled sausages!
No one makes sausage in bread with soft onions like the Germans. For 4 Euros, you get a nice, long, crispy sausage in a piece of fresh baguette with plenty of onions.
From a machine on the side of the sausage stand, you can help yourself to ketchup, curry ketchup, and mustard for your steaming lunch sausage.
Guten appétit.

Essential place in Freiburg. Take advantage of market day both at the fruit stalls and to have some great sausages at the stalls where they sell them. Don't forget to appreciate the fountain and the rest of the buildings that surround the cathedral, which is located in the center of the square.

I loved this area, especially at night. Live music, a market and some quaint cafes nearby. Nice place to take the beautiful architecture in. Bur besides that not much more but what else does one expect of a church square.

We came here before & there was the fresh food market, also fast food stand, the BBQ German sausage were so tasty & hot from the grill.
Today we visited the beautiful Munster church which was amazing.
It's just behind the Kaiser Joseph street, the main shopping area.
Can easily spend a good couple of hours there.

This square is located around the cathedral of Freiburg. It is the centre of old town. There is a lot of space, nice looking buildings and a good atmosphere. Several restaurants and terraces (not the best for quality) are located here.

Very nice central place of Freiburg. Right close to the cathedral and with a few rivers where the kids play with boats=)

We stayed at Zum Roten Baren, an old guest house on Oberlinden. It was very comfortable there, and very central.
