If you want some time out and relax with one of the best views, then this is your spot. Wonderful location for a picnic or just a rest.

The Water Playground is just great. With enough sun you can enjoy the whole day at the Neckarwiese. We usually stay close to the playground, while there are also more quiet spots.

Pretty manicured park with great playground features. Being along the Neckar gave it a breeze that the rest of the city didn't always have. The playground had an amazing interactive water feature styled like a river, where kids could turn wheels and move the water. Great place to spend a few hours. There's also at least one cafe with a bathroom.

The guy who rents boats was very sarcastic and abrupt with my wife. She asked nicely and he made fun of her repeating her english in a high voice and laughing at her. The boats we rented eventually were almost broken and water came inside. when we mentioned it afterwards he was angry and shouting in german. My God, we were scared of this man and his attitude so though the ride was okay ( considering the dirty brown river) , the experience was terrible and also hugely not worth the money.

This is where lots of Heidelbergers hang out in the summer! Terrific spot with a cool breeze in the hot summer months. If you're visiting with kids, there are several great playgrounds: one fenced one for younger kids; one beautiful water playground with wheels, channels, jets and more all in a natural rock structure; a few bigger structures for larger kids. There's an outdoor cafe here serving simple food and drinks. Gets a little more wild by the BBQ area on the grass after dark in the summer.

Though this bank of the river Necker is quite crowded during summer time, however it is well worth spending an afternoon during summer. Lots of kids playing and the breeze refreshing your mood is worth feeling and recharging yourself. Take a walk on the adjacent road during evening will further freshen your mood. I simply loved this place. It's a piece of lash green which can lift up your mood anytime!!!

I have been there twice and this is the best place for relaxing walk in town. Great view, not so many tourists.

Enjoyed great views of Neckarwiese from the Theodor-Huess Brücke during a short visit to Heidelberg in February 2023. Beautiful waterfront greenspace to enjoy the Neckar River.

Great place to spend a warm day with younger kids. There is water playground my 7 year old loves and plenty of space to lay down in the grass. Bring a plaid though because the geese love this spot too (and who can blame them)

I've lived in other cities with rivers, and some of them don't get it. Binghamton NY has two rivers, but no place where you can stroll peacefully beside either of them. Philadelphia PA has two rivers and also no place to stroll peacefully. But Heidelberg has only one river, and knows how to use it.
The Neckarwiese is an institution. Here you have the greatest view of the Altstadt and the Schloss. Here you can watch the sculls and tour boats and waterfowl on the river. You can play volleyball or boules, grill a steak or wurst, or just lie back and bask in the sun. On any day with sun you will find a thousand people out here, even during work hours, just relaxing, talking, reading, watching their kids play, or covertly making out.
One word of warning: there are too many geese, and they are not shy about showing their displeasure if you annoy them. They also leave much goose-manure behind, so you must be careful walking.
