Loved this hike and the gorgeous view of Heidelberg each step of the way. It doesn't seem so steep but it is so be prepared for that!! Bring a bottle of water if you are not an active type. It's also a little slippery as it's all cobblestone. There are plenty of resting points along the way with beautiful views... More

It's one of the best way to relax, walking and see the river and the castle. I would suggest to walk on the philosophenweg during all the year. It is not only nice in spring, but always. Because the surround will change, and you will feel to be in a new place every time.

I spent one day in Heidelberg and decided we'll take it all on foot - it really is a small town, then we decided we wanted to see the castle and we climbed the Philosopher's way. Philosopher's way is basically a lot or stairs, a lot! However, those stairs are in the middle of the forest and you get to... More

Great place for long meditative walks or trekking/nordic walking with breathtaking scenery. And hardly anybody around, at least in the morning, just you, your thoughts and nature.

We decided we would take a walk up along the Philospher's Way and we were not disappointed. What spectacular views back over the old town and the new city. The path was wet as it had been raining, so it was a little slippery in places. Good shoes is strongly advised. We had our 5 year old with us and... More

Fantastic views of Heidelberg and the river Neckar. There is also a small kiosk where you can buy some drinks to cool off.

Although he hike can be long if you go around the whole city you will be rewarded with great views. There are places to stop along the way and at the end you will feel rewarded.

This hike provides a great view of Heidelberg and the castle and is not packed with tourists! There is an outdoor amphitheater and ancient monastery hidden at the top that make it all the more worth it.

although partly uphill, this lovely walk outside of and above Heidelberg has a variety of small cafes so you can replenish drained energy with fresh coffee and cake (plus sandwiches etc) along the way. Homemade yummy stuff. Makes you wish there were more such places in California!
