It is a beautiful place with a lot of people and a couple of nice restaurants around, however, we were a bit terrified by the many-many weird-looking people that were sitting/laying around on the grass or right below the statues. They rather seemed like gangs looking for people to mug. Despite this feeling (no atrocities!), we liked the place.

The square, in the middle of Stuttgart's center, divides Stuttgart's pedestrian zone with all its shops, restaurants and cafés. In addition to leisurely walks and shopping, a place for a short break.
Beautifully laid out with the green areas, fountains, music pavilion ... the new castle and the old castle ... special events such as open-air concerts or live broadcasts take place again and again.

Not to be overlooked or avoided, is in the pedestrian zone with many sights around it, or nearby - and definetly worth to visit

Had plenty of time to kill before heading to the airport so wandered around. Sun came out just as I started walking around and the rain stopped. Lovely square with some beautiful fountains. Nice place to just walk about. I believe there is a market around Christmas but when I went in February nothing around at all.

Beautiful park filled with monuments, fountains, magnolia trees and an outdoor mall. People spend time sitting in the open spaces, taking in the beauty of the park, eating, laughing and playing. I felt so safe and it was wonderful to see people enjoying themselves without fear.

We enjoyed 2 visits to this platz (pkaza) while in Stuttgart. It's vibrant, full of energy and leads to shopping and restaurants galore. We also enjoyed the old buildings (some reconstructed due to WWII bombing damage). It is an easy walk from the main train station or easily accessible through the U-bahn.

This is the centre of tourist area - most attractions are within 10 minutes of here. Has 2 metro stops, buses, taxis etc. Cafes for a rainy day. 2 palaces, 3 art galleries (one shut). Views of the hills & TV tower etc
Ferris wheel - shut for winter? Small market (Christmas?)
Focus too of street activity - demos and displays
NB maps on display are orientated to match views, not compass.

The schlossplatz is the heart of stuttgart. Definitely a must see. I especially recommend it during christmas at the time of the christmas market (around 3 weeks in december, if not more). During this market, they install an ice skating ring, not too big, but pretty nice. A must do is to drink a gluh-wein, eat a wurst with pommes (avoid the exotic looking food at all costs, stick to traditional german! I love asian food so once i tried something asian looking right there in the market and it was horrible.. ) .. But beware of pickpockets during busy times!
All in all, a beautiful square, very alive on weekends, with good cafes around it, right in the middle of the shopping street.

The square is the main place and thing to see in Stuttgart and incredibly busy, on a sunny Saturday afternoon, at least. Lovely buildings on all sides. Good to see.

We took the walking tour. We were the only Americans in the tour so the tour guide first spoke in German to the other tourists and then in English to us. She was very accomodating and knowlegeable about her subject. We learned a lot of history about Stuttgart, which got it's name from the horse stud farms in the area. It is an easy walk through some very historical sites, including the Old and New Palaces.

Fantastic view of the palace , street and the Daimler logo on the Stuttgart central Station and the valley and mountains around. The u bahn station opens right on the street in front of the Schlossplatz and you have people enjoying the weather, beer and the summer evening upto 10-11pm. The street is lined by restaurants and stores almost like a high-street and with easy accessibility. There are open air concerts and jazz was on offer on one of the days. Fantastic atmosphere and really cool place to be. The icecream stores/ food trucks and the cafes add to the fun.
